Since it's another Vertigo series I'm planning on checking it out. Even though I haven't yet, and really have no plans to, read the comic it's based on. If the series is good, I might. Not sure what I think of the comic's premise. Sounds like it could easily alienate me based on my faith, but I'm still surprised Lucifer was able to pull me in as much as it did, so who knows.
I read it when I was about 18 an- Shit I just realised that was 11 years ago and now i'm super depressed. But yeah I don't remember anything besides a few set pieces, so I'm basically going in fresh! Looking forward to it!
I'm not going to dig deep into it, and I can only speak for myself, but it's the idea that this angel/demon creaton that's latched itself onto the main character could be more powerful than God himself. Granted, I only read a wiki description of the comics, so it might not have been the best representation of the story as a whole. Anyways, the pilot wasn't really what I was expecting, but in a good way. I really liked the pacing of it, the acting was great, and it's definitely got me curious to see where they're going with it.
I really enjoyed this. Wasn't sure on Cooper until the bar fight, but during that- yeah sold. Heard the next few episodes slow down a lot and it's had mixed reviews because of it, people who've seen further on praise it while others say they're unsure, so I guess it's gonna be a slow burner. I'm in though, really enjoyable.
It's a weird show for sure, and it definitely doesn't feel like anything else on TV. That's refreshing though considering how many shows there are like this. The pilot was a good set-up for the characters, their relationships, and the crazy tone. The fight scenes were great too.
As someone who has never read the comics, that was a bit of a mess. The vampire guy (who I only know was a vampire because I looked it up) really didn't need to be introduced in this episode, I feel. Or at least, have him show up at the bar and then do a flashback in the next episode. I thought he was possessed by the spirit thingy and was going to be the big bad of the season. Also, the bit at the end with the son and mom was really goofy; was that what they were going for?
Don't let Seth Rogen direct things. That was disjointed and messy. The cast is better than expected. Proinsias was fine and Cooper also sold me on Jesse with the bar fight. I'm still 50/50 on Negga, not because she's the wrong color but I'm still not convinced she has the steel in her for Tulip even after they tried so hard to sell me on what a badass she is. Arseface was a little too understandable for my tastes, but that's a nitpick. I do like that though the makeup is less extreme, his face does look more like a puckered rectum. Is it too much to ask for the inbred, ******ed, last descendant of Christ Messiah to show up intact? At least we're getting the Saint of Killers.
You didn't get Cassidy was a Vampire after seeing him bite a guys neck, drink blood, have holy water poured on him, and light his hand on fire by putting it in the sun? The end was just showing how the word of god works and how literal it's taken. He told him to be brave and open his heart to his mum, thats how dangerous his power is. Imagine telling someone to go fuck themselves, etc.
I assumed that final scene was because they didn't want to deal with Root's severed penis being lodged in his colon an hour too late for microsurgery and this was the tv compromise.
By the time they got to the sun bit, I had already looked up about him. As for drinking blood, the previous guy had exploded into blood, and I wasn't thinking about vampires, I was thinking about how this tied into everything else so far, and why he suddenly went medieval after reading that marked up Bible. Yeah, in hindsight it is easy to recognize, but keep in mind that I had no idea what their level of supernatural reality was at this point. As far as I knew, the thing from space was some kind of alien life form. I also thought that particular Bible was perhaps the African preacher and one of his parishioners had picked it up later and marked in it. The point I knew he didn't have the alien ghost thing in him was when it showed Tom Cruise exploding on the TV screen.
This was just a big pile of 'meh'. I liked Cassidy, and Jesse was interesting. The changes that they made were necessary for broadcast television, but I still wish they had figured out how to present that particular scene closer to the original material. I just don't think they're going to be able to do a good translation of this because of some of the more horrible stuff presented in the comic. The man on man rape is what immediately springs to mind as something that is going to get neutered for the show.
Nah, you're fine. I wasn't upset, just explaining my thought process while watching it. On the positive side, I liked how Tulip was introduced.
I liked her because she felt different from the comic. The changes they made to her character make her the most interesting in my opinion.
He doesn't have the traditional vampire fangs, which is what I think is confusing people the most. I think had they gone the fang route in the show it would have made more sense. I remember being slightly confused by the character when I was reading it as a kid (I was way too young to get a lot of what was going on at that point).
From what I remember, yes. It's been a long time since I've read my issues of Preacher though. To clarify. The way genesis flies into the earth from "parts unknown" is the same. I don't remember if he flies into who he does before the explosion of body.
Well I watched it and it was alright. Hope they can pull off the Saint of Killer story right. Be careful with this one. It can get kinda blasphemous, from what I remember. From some of your past post over the years I just wanted to give you a friendly heads up.
Kinda blasphemous? Understatement of under statements This is a Garth Ennius story, if up are at all squeamish stay away
