Here's my theory, the Ultron AI uploads itself into one of Tony's Iron Man suits. It gets shot in the face and the hole it creates forms the mouth of the Ultron we know. Maybe The AI is someone messing with the Jarvis program. Makes a copy of Jarvis and starts screwing around with the programming, so instead of a loyal helpful butler program, it just cares about itself and does the normal thing of viewing people as the virus that needs to be eliminated.

Fits with the 'realistic' movieverse that would be easily understood by the general public.

Meh. Thor can fly. Hulk can pretty much fly. Stark isn't the only flier on the team, so the reason for the lack of Falcon is contradictory.

Man, I bet Marvel is doing this so they can trick people into buying the pile of crap that is the Age of Ultron comic.

That said, I think if anyone can do Ultron justice on screen, Whedon's one of the few. Guess we should expect some Vision casting announcements.

Not the best business model to spend $200M making a film to maybe get a few $100K sales of a comic that will be 2 years out of print before the movie gets released.

Now could the recent comic series have inspired the decision to feature Ultron, sure.

It could also be that Ultron is an easier villian to do that seems more realisic to an audience. We've all seen robots before and know they can go bad so its not a totally new concept. Probably much easier to believe then Thanos.

Movie won't be following the story from Age of Ultron, it's only using the name.

What a stupid title. So is the film going to follow the course of an age? Is there going to be a true period of time where Ultron dominates?

Cool news about Ultron. I'm curious about how they will differentiate this from the Chitauri in Avengers 1 who were basically just CGI drones running around being targets for heroes. A bunch of Ultrons running around. Going to be fun following the development.

Well if there are a bunch of Ultron copies, that opens the film up for the Avengers to destroy them an a variety of ways. Same as cartoon rules. Can't rip a organic being in half but nothing says, when fighting robots, you can't blow holes through, tear the head off, rip it in half, and crush.

Cap throws his shield, cutting off a robots head,
Hawkeye, shoots an arrow into the chest, whole robot explodes.
Widow shoots into the head of one & head exploes.
Thor lightning strikes them, blasting them to parts.
Iron Man of course, blows them apart.
Hulk tears them to pieces or crushes them.

With orgianic beings, even aliens, they just slump over or if they do explode, the fireball covers them being blown apart.

Unless they do another flash back movie like they did with Ironman 3.

So as I understand it, Stark and not Pym is the creator of Ultron?

Well, it's about time JARVIS got fed up with Tony's shit, I'm surprised he didn't lose it before...

    That's what GotG is for.

I sure hope that's not the case, because that's kind of stupid. The entire point of Ultron is that he's Hank Pym's greatest failure. It's a defining aspect of Pym's character. It doesn't work with Stark at all.

I hope Ultron is not a letdown like the Mandarin. Otherwise cool.

I'm happy, because I was already hoping for Ultron and not another space villian for movie 2. It seems like a good idea to introduce a big Earth-originated villain for this movie, then another big villain like Thanos or Kang in movie 3.

Do hope Pym will show up in some form. At this point I'm actually expecting him not to turn into (Gi)ant-Man, but at least have him in there as the creator of that tech and Ultron, and introduce his successor in the Ant-Man movie or something. I'll be surprised if Pym will suit up himself :)

Sweet. My original AOL name was Ultron4898 (and my original name here), so I'm happy with them choosing the character. Hell, if you check the file path to pretty much any image I post, including my sig, you'll see ultron4898 in there :)

Ultron is an interesting choice as the villian especially in how they will develop his origins. Either they will follow the original story of Hank Pym creating Ultron or Tony Stark is accidentally responsible for creating Ultron.
I have noticed that they seem to be using some ideas from the animated movie Next Avengers Heroes of Tomorrow. Cap looks like he's hooking up with Natasha just like in Next Avengers, and so far no mention of Hank Pym showing up yet for Avengers 2, so Tony may be responsible for Ultron's creation like in the Next Avengers.

A little shocked about Pym not being the creator of Ultron but I'm still curious to see how he'll be handled. I'm a little worried about this being focused too much on Tony because his story is pretty much done right now but I'll likely be surprised.

Also I'm thinking that at first Ultron can look like his classics design but later on as he becomes more powerhungry he'll start to upgrade himself into something out of the Transformers movies but without the skeletal theme due to him wanting to not look like the very beings that created him but that's my idea.
