I'm actually surpised that there's no thread for this show yet.

The second season of the monogatari series, started recently, adapting the Tsubasa Tiger Story from the novels.

    Anybody else watching this?

Still need to see Nekomonogatari before I start watching Monogatari. That's going to be a while since I was planning to wait for 10 episodes to be released. Since Crunchyroll isn't going to start uploading the episodes until August, it'll be a long wait indeed. :(

I'll be waiting for the Blu ray release (as usual). Considering the high price, it's more enjoyable as a first time viewing.

It's pretty damn good. Bake was great, Nise was overall worth watching, Kizu was fantastic (in book form, I've given up waiting for the movie), Neko Black was good, and Neko White is shaping up to be great. Fun, quirky, mysterious, and introspective characters, an interesting visual style, and dat dialogue. The sheer amount of fanservice would be intolerable in any other series, but -monogatari is strange and manages to make it seem perfectly casual/natural without taking away from the story.

Also by the same author, Katanagatari is good as well, though I haven't finished it. As of the second episode, I wouldn't say it's in the same league as the -monogatari series.

Keep reading! It gets better and better to the end! It's going to be amazing in animation.

I'm reading it's just that I started like yesterday, currently done with chapter 8 (who leaves an iron sphere with the baseballs :lol ), I'll probably keep reading 4 chapters a day.

    So far loving it :)

    Ep.2

    This marks the return of
    Black hanekawa
, and Hanekawa / Senjougahara are still awesome as a pair.

    Looking forward to next week.

Plus I'm up to chapter 15 in Kizumonogatari.

'Twas very hard to read subs during the shower scene.

Black Hanekawa meeting the Tiger was cool, but I still think Tiger's voice was too non-threatening sounding. I mean, he's a freaking tiger! Also, it's weird seeing Black Hanekawa outmatched physically :O

I like how Senjougahara is basically putting Hanekawa's flaws into the open. Three arcs of development should payoff soon!

If you're at Chapter 15, you're in for a treat. It ties everything together, all the small hints and clues and facts that have been shown then shrugged off.

It's not like Black Hanekawa is that strong, Oshino mentions that the meddlesome cat is relatively harmless as far as oddities are concerned, the only reason Araragi had problems before it's because the Cat is a terrible matchup for him; However I do agree with the tiger's voice being non-threatening.

I hope that with Senjougahara help, Hanekawa finally gets over her flaws, but I don't need more shower scenes...

And yeah 15 was pretty great, a perfect way to start the final arc.

Part of it was the match up, but Oshino also says that Hanekawa makes it abnormally dangerous as well. He can steal Shinobu's heart, but then loses 20 times to the cat. I guess we don't know how strong she really is, but I'd say Araragi would have trouble with the Tiger too if he were there.

lol too much fanservice is a bad thing and the way this was pulled off wasn't nearly as elegant as it was done in Nise with
    Shinobu
. I do agree that we've had plenty enough for this arc at least.

Also, I don't know if I've mentioned this at all on this site, but Araragi is a supreme badass.

Everyone will become unhappy -- everyone will be burdened with unhappiness.

Manly tears were shed. :cry  Great book, it's a shame that they didn't adapt it in the right order, it explains a lot of things.

    As for episode 3

Hanekawa is living with the fire sisters, Shinobu doesn't seem to know anything about the apparition (and is separated from Araragi).

And the cram school went down... the heck?

Yeah, Kizu has a lot of information that seems ridiculous to leave out, especially considering the stories coming out for season 2. Ah well. Makes rewatching/reading all the better in the end regardless.

Wow, episode 3 was probably the best episode yet (not saying much, seeing as how there's only 3 episodes, but still). Loaded with humor all around and we get to see
the other characters, including Shinobu! Unsurprisingly the two show stealers meeting makes for a cool conversation sequence. Kinda shocked how they just did away with the cram school. They're really playing up Araragi's off-screen adventure. And of course something like this happens when we don't get to see it :p

Hopefully it wasn't Kanbaru's Devil arm or anything.

Is kanbaru even capable of such level of destruction?

And yes, Shinobu / Black Hanekawa was glorious

I'm really looking forward to see Araragi's off-screen adventure, something really crazy must have happened.

Geez, maybe we should lay off the spoiler tags :lol
No one here but us 2 Monogatari fans anyways :p

Not sure how strong Kanbaru is either, it's not really an action show, but she kicks hard enough for her foot to go straight through a human being. I'm not sure if it was a fight though. Araragi doesn't seem like the type to resort to that, especially not when a friend is nearby.

    Hnnnng dat mystery!

Love the Terminator 'reference' and Senjougahara was especially hilarious. Having a new Monogatari episode every week for the next half year is such a treat!

Yeah that Terminator reference was hilarious :lol

    And while
    Kanbaru
is strong enough to kill humans, I seriously doubt she is capable of tearing down
    a school

Ps: so are we going to completely drop the spoiler tags or just reduce their use?

    Episode 4:
EPISODE IS BACK, and he is 6 years old? wtf

We also met araragi's mother, being a badass runs in the family

There's also Gaen, who is like the polar opposite of Hanekawa, and is apparently related to Kanbaru

And Hanekawa learned that Araragi asked his sisters about love before meeting Senjougahara, I wonder if that will lead to somewhere.

Oh and unless kako is confronted things will keep burning

I'm confused by the new ed, is this arc over?

..... I think I have spoiler tag addiction.

No, keeping spoiler tags are probably for the best. 'Tis the right thing to do.

This episode gave me the feels. Like moving on from a part of your life into a new one. It's like anxiety and excitement and nostalgia rolled into one. Deep shit like that.

Araragi's mom is definitely bad ass. I also love how she has that emotive hair as well. And she's the only non-exorcist adult who has a face. Apparently the anime cut off some scenes with her, but I'll read the book another time. I would not mind seeing more of her. I'd also love to see his dad. But he's not female so his chances of appearing are now that much slimmer.

Gaen is kinda goofy looking (maybe I just have a hatred for turned caps), but she seems like a villain type character. If Monogatari can have such a thing as a 'villain'. And yeah, related to Kanbaru? Didn't Kaiki mention something about Kanbaru in Nise?
lol at Episode. Not exactly how I imagined him, but close enough. He's a bit more pretty than I thought. My impression was that he was trying to act tough but used female phrasing (for lack of better terms) and that was the irony. Dat eye opening animation.

Looking forward to finally confronting Kako. It should be something Hanekawa does herself I would hope.

I hope they explore the envy issue. I get that Hanekawa puts on an act and isn't really pure and 'white' (and the white signifies tons of other things) but I don't see how she really has an issue with envy. Unless she's averting her eyes to the fact that she loves Koyomi and puts on the act to cope and only pretended to get along with Senjougahara? I dunno. There is that bit where she was a bit jealous of Araragi asking Kanbaru for help...

I think the ed just signifies Hanekawa no longer relying on the cat to burden her problems because the old ed had her run around town like a puppet.

lol How can you have an addiction to spoiler tags? The [ and ] keys are so far apart from my fingers!

Also, :lol  at the reaction to the Fire Sisters' boyfriends.

I know what you mean with the feels, after knowing these characters for so long, it's good to see that they are finally growing up (Hanekawa in this case).

I sort of realized that some scenes with the mother were cut, since her character could have done so much more in this situation, but the anime must make some compromises

Gaen does look silly, and even if episode doesn't exactly look as I imagined, it fits the book description

The way I see it her Jealousy comes in big part from the fact that she was Araragi's first friend, and they accompanied each other in some of their lives most important moments (The Kissshot case, and the Black hanekawa case) and yet every minute that passes they are getting more and more distant

I guess your explanation for the Ed fits the episode thematic

And for the spoiler tag addiction, it's quite simple, I just copy and paste the spoiler tags

:lolol  at the Fires Sisters boyfriends, I already knew who they resembled, but Hanekawa's reaction was what made the scene work so well.
