I still haven't seen the first one and I plan on doing it, but I'm going to read the book first because it's on my summer reading list and I have always wanted to read classic science fiction novels like that.
Blade Runner 2 Confirmed (With the Return of Deckard) BLADE RUNNER 2 Finds A Director; Harrison Ford Will Return As 'Deckard' He's back Boys.
It's got a good director behind it, but I don't think this is necessary. Blade Runner doesn't need a sequel. I would rather see another story told in that world or an adaptation a little closer to the book even though I like the movie a little more than the book.
Yep - right behind Alien, Terminator, Star Wars OT, etc... Just because it doesn't NEED one, doesn't mean it can't be done well. Villeneuve has proven himself to be a fantastic director and I have no doubt he can pull this off.
So, how old will Ford be when they start shooting this movie in 2016? At least 73? Damn. I certainly hope I have that much energy to keep going when I'm his age.
Yeah, now it has. I haven't been reading too much about it at all, so this is news to me. I'm not bothered by plot "spoilers," but I know others are.

Sorry, I never got that impression at all. I'm with Ford on this one - Deckard = Human. The origami Unicorn was always about Gaff saying "Hi! I could have 'retired' Rachel, but I didn't. She's supposed to expire within 4yrs like the others, so if you want her, take her." It falls in line with the last thing he said to Deckard: "It's too bad she won't live...but then again, who does?" Also, Gaff wanted to be top dog. What better way to get there than to get Deckard out of the way by letting him keep chasing Rachel's skirt? That's what I've always taken away from the movie.
Maybe because you only saw the chopped up theatrical cut with the hammy narration they were forced to add? The director's cut is pretty clear. And it's not Ford's call to make. Or any actor's. It's the director's movie. He gets to choose the story he wants to tell. The origami unicorn represents Gaff knowing Deckard's dreams the same way Deckard knew Rachel's: because they were implanted. "It's too bad she won't live...but then again, who does?" Gaff's line is a barb aimed at Deckard. Rachel is the "she won't live," Deckard is the "but who does?" This is DECADES beyond the spoilers statute of limitations. It's like getting mad at someone mentioning Darth Vader is Luke's father. Yeah, it's that old. Come on, those are all pretty terrible comparisons. I mean, Star Wars was built to be continued from day 1. Alien and Terminator, whatever. They didn't need sequels, but there was no reason not to have one, either. Blade Runner had a point and made it. Continuing on after that is as stupid an idea as doing Casablanca 2 (which they've tried to get going a couple times) or Gone With the Wind 2. If you can't tell the difference between continuing Star Wars and continuing Casablanca, that's on you.
