Ghost rider could easily defeat Thanos with penance stare.

In a recent comic, it was revealed that Thanos actually enjoys the Penance Stare. Because it allows him to relive what he views as his fondest memories.

He isn’t affected by it by any which way.

    there's this:

and the fact he feels no guilt or remorse for what he's done so the penance stare won't do a thing to him.

Note that this isn't a new ass-pull handicap for the Penance Stare in order to make Thanos more OP in that matchup, or whatever, either.

That specific weakness actually came up in the first Ghost Rider movie, even. Blackheart himself was entirely immune to the Penance Stare because he had no concept of mortal empathy or guilt. But at the climax of the movie, when he powered himself up using the souls of the dead, GR was able to channel the Penance Stare through those.

And Punisher wasn’t affected by it either cause he didn’t feel any guilt. And in a recent Avengers issue, Captain Marvel powered through it, but that was more from Carol’s mental fortitude. As she put it, “I’ve been giving Penance my entire life!”.

Remember that one cartoon when the Ghost Rider nearly killed Galactus with the Penance Stare? That was nuts. Not bringing it up for any arguments, just to give it a mention. :lol

I do wonder if a stare would work on MCU Thanos, who is much less "soulless" than other Thanos incarnations? He sure seemed torn up about Gamora.

that's not a bad point....but it's only one soul as opposed to untold numbers in the end. the one death he might feel remorse about might not be enough to put him down. even then he was probably prepared for the possibility the snap would take her anyway so at the end of the day he might not feel much guilt about it since universal unbias balance was his whole motivation.

Not sure of that. He had no true empathy over any other life he'd taken. Only Gamora's death probably would have effected him, and he shouldered that burden and powered through it. As I understand, it's usually the cumulative effect of the guilt of multiple souls that gives the Penance Stare its potency. And considering that Thanos carries that guilt with him to his grave, I think he'd be desensitized to the Stare. He never forgets it.

that's how i get it too. it's your guilt coupled with the pain you caused to your victims that does the damage. even if there was guilt like you said he didn't waver. that one guilty kill he may have had wouldn't be enough for it to really work. if anything it would be like what mantis did. it might shake him a little but he'd get over it and pound ghost rider.

Theoretically, if the Penance Stare could effect people like Galactus - who normally don't feel any guilt over the people they kill - it would annihilate Thanos.

Thanos doesn't have guilt over his massive body count because to him it's the rest of us who are guilty of being alive. But if there's some shred of remorse in there that the Penance Stare could latch onto, it would destroy him. This would have been a much better way to end Endgame, by the way, instead of bringing in some random other Thanos to pinch hit.

A lot of these have the same ratings out of 10 for me, but in way of overall order-of-enjoyment, this is how I rank them:

    01. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    02. Avengers: Infinity War
    03. Avengers: Endgame
    04. Captain America: Civil War
    05. Avengers
    06. Thor: Ragnarok
    07. Avengers: Age of Ultron
    08. Guardians of the Galaxy
    09. Iron Man 2
    10. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
    11. Captain America: The First Avenger
    12. Iron Man
    13. Black Panther
    14. Thor
    15. Ant-Man
    16. Doctor Strange
    17. Ant-Man and the Wasp
    18. Thor: The Dark World
    19. Iron Man 3
    20. Spider-Man: Far From Home
    21. Captain Marvel
    22. Spider-Man: Homecoming
    23. The Incredible Hulk

My favorites are clearly all of the ensemble movies, but even to my own surprise, The Winter Soldier still remains my #1. I thought Infinity War / Endgame would take it out, but after re-watching them so many times, I've realized they're TOO MUCH of a stressful sensory overload event to just casually "throw on", haha.

That's also a factor, but it was also because Blackheart didn't have a soul in the first place; his exact words, "no soul to burn". So you can be lacking in empathy or guilt, or just plain not have a soul to be immune to the penance stare.

...Of every movie I watch, why do I always remember details of the terrible ones?
