He forced them at Phaser-point. That's the only logical conclusion. Nimoy and DeForrest tried to stop him...but by then it was too late. His ego threatened to eat the executives and they had no choice but to stand down.

They had no choice. Shatner and Nimoy both had a contract that stated that if one got something, the other should too. Nimoy got to direct a ST movie, so Shatner by contract was also allowed to direct a ST movie.

Best thing to do is simply ignore ST 5. It simply doesn't fit with the other movies, while skipping it does not affect the overal storyline of the movies.

Are you fucking high? In the 1960's, that wasn't the time to push equity? How was that not a subject to take seriously? 10 years prior, President Eisenhower sent members of the 101st Airborne division and Federalised the Arkansas National Guard to allow nine black students to attend a school. You say Star Trek took it's message too seriously, I say that everyone else didn't take it seriously enough. Also, did I fucking miss some memo that says humanity may under no circumstances become a peaceful, cooperative union and then reach out among the stars?

Was Gene Roddenberry a perfect man? Fuck no; he was an adulterous perv, but as with many things, the message became greater than the man.

The JJ Abram's Star Trek is popular; it's apparently relevant again (whatever that fucking means) and it makes money. Awesome, power to it and all it's fans. I just can't look at it and see the same; or even a remake of the same series that saw Nichelle Nichols be nearly begged by Martin Luther King to stay as an active cast member of because people were looking up to her. That's my problem; not his.

No, I am not fucking high.

And that's my point. It was the 1960's! No one cared about the things he did. The civil rights movement did, but he wasn't part of it. I don't care what people say. A show about people in space, loving each other, no matter their color, is not a part of something much bigger.

    Had it been the 70's...okay.

Cool line from Peter Weller in one of the featurettes. "I've never had my own ship. I've had a Ford Taurus."

    Long live Robocop.

Into darkness is my favorite movie of the year at least until I see the desolation of smaug and thor the dark world. Until then its my favorite movie of the year and a bunch of stupid so called "trekkies" arnt going to make me change my mind. some of the so called trekkies are acting immature and make the whole star trek fan base look pathetic.

that wasnt Mirror Kirk, that was Prime Kirk in the Mirror Universe.

Thats why Kirk is the greatest Captain. Period. Full Stop. Do not pass go.
Dont get me wrong, I love Picard too, but he is a captain for a diffrent, more peaceful time.

Star Trek Into Darkness Blu-ray Extras to Be Divided Up Among Various Retailers - Film Junk

Well that's dumb. Special features aren't usually a dealbreaker for me, but I really despise retailer exclusives, unless the exclusive stuff is something like special packaging or an extra like a t-shirt or poster. I'll still buy the movie because in the end I'll rewatch the movie but likely only watch the special features once anyway. I can see how this might be more upsetting for bigger fans of the movie though. If they do something like this on a Marvel movie or LOTR/The Hobbit then I would probably be more upset.

Never realized how large the Enterprise and Vengeance were to other Trek movie and TNG starships.

So, did anyone accidentally buy the Wal-Mart set, and you don't want that USS Vengeance ship?

Accidentally? Is there something wrong with it?
