Reading through the comments of that article (much more enjoyable than the article itself), someone brought up a really good point...

Why the hell isn't there a new Star Trek TV series in the works? The JJ movies made Trek relevant again, so you'd think someone would want to cash in on that with a similar TV show.

I can't watch ST3 anymore, my suspension of disbelief dies horribly as soon as they go down to Genesis and it looks like a set from TOS.

IMO ST6 is pretty good aside from the fact that everybody is too fucking old, could have been a classic if it was made earlier.

As terrible as ST5 is, realising that Shatner was largely responsible for the whole thing just made it funny for me. I can at least laugh at how naff and self-indulgent it is, whereas I don't think I'm ever going to be able to sit through more then 10 minutes of Nemesis without wanting to punch my TV.

I think there was always a longer version of Bat'leths that would be used on the Klingon equivalent of Horseback also a longer Bat'leth would also perhaps be a niche similar to a Bow staff a similar effect would be gained by a Young Klingon or smaller female using a full adult size blade. There's plenty of examples of other Klingon weapons though - I recall a rather nifty Falchion someone had on a their wall.
I think the bog standard TNG style is perhaps the best design though as it maintains the stabbing blades and cutting edges - where as some are more like a series of axe blades in a row - I think you'd a lot more strength to use those well and armour would be more likely to stop them. however they'd be a lot less likely to get stuck in a body too. The other neat thing about Bat'leths is they are still very effective none-lethal weapons if used unsharpened.

I do wonder if "Real" Bat'leths might have trouble with the points breaking off though - and potentially injuring the user. Many martial arts weapons practitioners are rather complementary of the design though in that way in brings together various characteristics in a single weapon ; part axe part sword and ideally suited for blocking others swords. and even against another Bat'leths the way it has the 4 edges means it's still dangerous even when locked with another blade. as it can pivot up or under the pivot point to strike at the head or legs - it's a very clever design and It's fascinating to think no one has ever quite thought of it before the 20th century when there's so many centuries of preceding blade cultures. The closest thing I've seen is a few of the Japanese horse spear/axe hybrid designs.

    ------------

Oh and if Praxus has gone kaboom - then that might well explain the Klingon breathing gear.

    They both suck.
First Contact was the last good Trek film.
Generations weren't too bad. It's watchable.
Star Trek 6- not the top of their game, but alright.
    Star Trek 5-:lol
Star Trek 4- light hearted, good fare
Star Trek 3- decent, yet somber. Suffered from planet interior sets. Had a LOT going for it, tho.
Star Trek 2- while flawed, will always be that which others will compare to.
    Star Trek: TMP- booooo-riiiing.

I think that Paramount should do a Series set in the same rebooted Trek Franchise Universe just do not center it around the crew of the USS Enterprise. Secondly seeing as how the quality of writing fluctuates per episode of previous Star Trek series after TOS here is what Paramount should do:

Star Trek TV Series I is structured to have a 3 season arc each season will have a 14 episode run. Will follow the exploits of Federation ship/Crew etc/.

I would rather see a new TV-Show in the old timeline after the Voyager came back home. There were so many great established things right now. And then comes Abrams and makes Star Wars out of Star Trek... I love Star Wars, but I like Star Wars and Star Trek to be different...

Well, I really thought we were going to get a Captain Sulu series after Voyager ended. The Voyager episode that put Tuvok in his past on board Sulu's bridge went through a LOT for one episode, so I naturally thought it was a teaser for a retro series.

Saw this last night. I thought it was really entertaining. I know very little about the Star Trek mythology (never seen a single episode or film of the Shatner-as-Kirk Trek) but even I could tell some of the nods that were done. It was a lot better than the first movie.

Not sure what "plot holes" some people are referring to... I didn't pick up on anything during the movie or thinking about it afterwards (unlike Iron Man 3, which didn't survive the drive home). Seemed solid to me.

This - along with every other post in this thread - is just standard bellpeppers complaining. You're just addicted to being negative, dude.

Insurrection's worst crime is that it just comes across as an average episode of TNG with more money spent on it. The problem with Nemesis is that pretty much every plot point in the film has huge failures of logic and that all the set pieces are totally contrived hack work.

Shower of evil.... Hmmm (raises an eyebrow in quizzical fashion)

Isn't "Jub Jub" Ewok speech so it's already in a Star Wars Movie (or maybe that was Nub Nub)?

Nemesis for all it's daftness is at least shot like a Movie - Insurrection looks exactly like that Episode of Next Generation where Bev & Picard wander around the countryside "Bonded" to each other even the ship interiors are lit like a TV show. it looks like the spent a few buck building a few minor extras used a few more effects shots but shot the underpinning actors exactly like they would have the TV show - and it showed. certain episodes of Enterprise looked more "Epic".

Speaking of which if he'd been crafty and wanted to wind people up a little he could have stated the Star Trek nudity was a homage 'Enterprise'. (Not that the 60's didn't have outfits that were more flesh than cloth on as many woman as possible).

    Just saw it.

Wow, I was blown away. FAR exceeded my expectations and it's probably one of my favorite movies of all time.

Good points about Nemesis. I remember being okay with it when it came out, but I came to like it less as time went on and I started thinking about what the movie could have been. If they were trying to have a nemesis character for Picard and give it the same gravity as the Kirk/Khan relationship, they needed to go with a character who already existed instead of making up someone new who Picard himself didn't even know was alive until the movie. I started thinking, if they wanted Romulans as the villains of the movie, why not make Sela the nemesis character? Picard still has unanswered questions about where she came from, and since it was the final TNG film, I think it would have been nice to bring Denise Crosby back.

they are still doing a worf captain series, aren't they? i'd rather see more of the "future" then the past.
