Like I said I think 3D in most films just makes it a sharper image. At least that's the case in most films unless I'm just believing that's the way it works outside of juggernauts like Avatar and DOTM.

I enjoyed Jurassic World in 3D. Mad Max too was also great last summer. Thought AoU was much weaker than Avengers though.

Personally though the Transformers movie have been weak in the 3D department.

There's far too many movies in 3D these days. This must be what 1950's movie watching was like.

Maybe it's below expectations because the lead actor isn't someone people are really "buzzing" about? Smith has had a fair share of flops in recent years, but he still has name recognition.

Who is the central character, who plays the part, and why should anyone care about him?

My problem is that none of the new characters are remotely memorable. With the first movie, you had Will Smith having the newspaper scene in LA, the proposal scene in the lockerroom with his friend, his yelling at the UFO and then just cold cocking the alien out in the desert, etc. He had a lot of memorable scenes and dialog in the movie. Jeff Goldblum had a lot of great scenes and dialog too. Randy Quaid had his crazy "I've been abducted by aliens," storyline.

These new characters have nothing and there were too many of them. I know there was one funny line from one of them, but now I can't remember what it was, which shows how uninspiring it was. The Chinese girl was pointless. The annoying friend to Jake was pointless. The stuff with David's father and the school kids was pointless. I have no idea who that lady that was following David around was, but she is somehow his love interest? What happened to his ex-wife? Oh, and then you had that other annoying guy with David who kept asking the warlord dude for his sword.

Who was that scientist dude that was with the crazy scientist from the first movie? Was he in the first movie? How was he only in a coma when he was clearly dead in the first one?

Also, did it really need to sequel bait? Can't we get a freaking summer blockbuster anymore that doesn't sequel bait?

Chinese Girl was there for the Chinese Market. You can expect lots more of that in the future. She needed a love interest of type to play off, so we got the buddy character. Plus, it's an America and Chinese are good friends metaphor.

The scientist guy was data ' s assistant in the first movie and apparently they're a couple, but I never got that vibe. I thought it was more a mentor-mentee relationship.

I really wish they had made Jake one of randy quads sons from the first movie.

    So basically she was pointless.

They are? I saw nothing in the first one to even hit that he was gay. Wow, more pandering just to be able to hand out with the cool kids.

That would have made more sense and he wouldn't have looked or sounded as douchey. Jake looked like a guy you would see spraying his body down with Axe Body Spray because he thinks girls would be attracted to that.

I think TF: DOTM was the last film I saw that the 3D added anything. I skip them completely now.

It was like, Independance Day vs Alien vs Pacific Rim vs Godzilla vs Star Wars vs Interstellar. A complete trainwreck that had very little in common with the original movie, save for returning characters. Yet... it was inexplicably fun to watch. Over the top, didn't make any sense, full of dumb American clichés, yet fun to watch. It's like a 0/10 and a 10/10 at the same time. My favorite character was...

I saw this movie this past Wednesday. I could definitely see where all the critics were saying it was bad. But in all honesty, it was still enjoyable. Was it anywhere near as good as the first one? Not to me. Some of the lines/scenes felt a little cheesy, especially where there was supposed to be some kind of "motivation" for humanity to fight against the aliens. It felt really heavy that they wanted to play off of Bill Pullman's character's speech in the first movie. I don't think they succeeded in pulling off the desired effect. Overall, it was a fun movie to watch. I wouldn't say it's award winning though.

Oh well. If there's a sequel, I'll go see that too.

The 3-D fad of the 1950s came and went in the space of 3 years with 48 out of the 50 films produced in1953. The modern age of digital 3-D has already been around for a decade. If you don't like it, there are no shortage of 2d screenings.

If you ever get a chance to see a screening of a vintage 3-D movie you should definitely check it out. They give more bang per buck than most modern 3d movies.

The most impressive 3d I saw in the Independence Day screening was the Imax countdown. I don't mind paying extra for 3-D, I just want them to actually use the technology to its full potential and show me something worth putting the glasses on for.

It's weird to see how everyone here enjoyed it for what it was. I tried, but it was just too boring.

I just watched it last night for the first time. Overall I liked it, I thought it was pretty good, but not as classic as the first one, sorry I love roland emerichs movies lol

This one was alright, but I think they tried to cram too much into one movie, the new characters were all pretty much pointless and you end up not caring about any of them. The come back characters were as great as ever, Okun, Whitmore, David, etc. It was great to see them all unite again and conquer the aliens. THe movie was way too fast paced though, they could have dragged out a lot of these scenes to get a better "oh my god, its a ship the size of the moon" vibe going. It's like no one really even cared this giant ass ship covering half the planet landed and destoyed who knows how much of the planet in the process.

The thing I like about the first film, is the destruction scenes were awesome and pretty much the main plot of the movie. The harvester ship landing could have easily been dragged out to half an hour to 45 minutes of our characters trying to escape this monster of a ship. Something along the lines of 2012, or San Andreas. That is kinda what I was looking forward to going into this movie. I mean, this thing really would have fucked up the earth lol When one of the characters said if this thing keeps its current velocity, its gonna crack the earth in half, that's kinda what I was expecting to see!! :p

More things I wanted to see more of, or dragged out longer
    - First movie mothership debri field
    - First movie drop ship that actually landed explored and utilzed better (use it to fight harvest queen maybe?
    - Earth Orbital Defense Grid actually fire at least once before getting destroyed
    - Whatever base around Saturn actually shown

I would have had the main plot, the harvest ship coming to earth and fucking up the moon like it did, then fuck half the planet up, and our heros trying to escape it, while locating this new alien ally, and that's about it. Escape giant moon size ship with some casulties and in the end, find the new technology and end it right there, leaving cliff hanger for next movie like they did with The Force Awakens. Make ya go, oh shit, that was crazy and what the fuck is this new thing! Would have given a lot more time to develop characters and love interests so we actually cared about them.

anyways, it was still a good movie, they left a lot open for sequels that's for sure

I can't speak on the 3D of the BluRay, but I did see the movie in 3D when I saw it in theaters.

It was pretty disappointing to be honest. Barely any depth throughout, and nothing really popped, which was upsetting, since the disaster segments should have been phenomenal in 3D.

I feel like this movie was made for China. They kept the dialogue dumb and simple so they could translate it into another language.

That's the real reason most movies suck now (I think).

As much as I liked it, I admit it feels pretty forgettable right now. Don't remember that much. And it's not just because I've only seen it once, either. I remembered much more of Ghostbusters after my first viewing than I do of this.

Only one I'm not down for is Jeff's nomination. Come on, it's Jeff Goldblum.
