Did a search before starting this so I'm fairly sure I'm not making a dupe thread.

This board is sorely in need of some hardcore Godzilla discussion and let it not be said that I didn't throw my hat in the ring to try and get it started.

So, I've started a Godzilla/Overall Kaiju DVD collection recently and have spent a lot of time watching classic Goji films. So, to get the ball rolling I have a simple question:

The new Legendary Films Godzilla project has said many times that he will be definitely fighting at least one monster in the film. The director has expressed interest in Ghidora for obvious reasons. But who would YOU like to see once again in a big screen battle against the Big G?

I'd love to see Godzilla throw down with Gigan.

Frankly I don't find Ghidora to be all that super special awesome. Besides Gigan is just so different. Imagine him looking like he did in Final Wars. Fucking epic.

Agreed, Gigan was always my favorite.

I think the reason Ghidora gets such attention is because right from the first movie he appeared in, he was the only real challenge against Godzilla. Gigan comes a close second due to his ferocity and brutality, but Gigan tends to be a coward, often leaving an ally in battle to fend for himself (ie. Megalon, Ghidora)

The more Gigan the better. I'd quite like to see Megalon again too :D

I still haven't seen that one, I know the gist of it, but never actually seen it. I'm hoping when the reboot is released there'll be a resurgence in interest and Megalon, 1985(aka Goji Returns), and Biolante will get re-releases on dvd.

this, without the running away, I'm proud to say that the 1998 tri star film was the best godzilla film

I like to see this "Deathla" creature, but maybe something new or hell bring back an old character like Gigan or anyone.

I just hope it's better than the 1998 TriStar film.

Oh, and I'd like Destroyah in it. :D

Speaking of Gigan, I was on Amazon this morning purchasing the latest additions to my Kaiju collection, I happened to notice just how unbalanced the prices are for a lot of the Godzilla movies.

For example, nearly all the Millenium and Heisei era films all seem to hover around $10-15 a piece (this includes double features,) however most of the Showa era films, inclduing the one I had my eye on Godzilla vs. Gigan...were around $35 new!!!

Any ideas as to why this is?

That’s pretty funny, because if the creature did something other than run away all the time the 1998 movie could have been the best Godzilla movie.

While actually liking the American movie, I don't consider it a Godzilla movie. Name it anything else and its a good monster movie. I didn't even mind the cameo in FW, especially when Godzilla shrugged him off so easily and the kaiser didn't even care. I would like to think that was Tohos exact reaction to zilla...

I have to agree with this statement. I'll be kinda odd to see Zilla come back to face Godzilla in 2012 or whatever. I still think that creature (Zilla) is kinda cool, I still think Zilla might be a lost relative to Godzilla, but I know its wrong. Still it makes sense to me in some crazy way.
