Doctor Who Boss Calls Controversial Canon Change “the Spine of the Whole Show” Doctor Who Boss Calls Controversial Canon Change “the Spine of the Whole Show” And so what little interest I had is now dead. The 12th Doctor explodes with regeneration energy and the screen goes white, then ends for me.
Or you could watch it before judging it? Execs also said Season 2 was the first time the Doctor would have 2 companions with him, clearly that's wrong.
Ya know on some level I do respect this. I really didn’t care for the Timeless Child stuff but I admire RTD’s choice to pick it up and run. This article makes it sound like it’s more of a thematic backbone than plot and frankly, he and Gatwa were able to give the story some killer emotional weight in the Xmas special already. So I’m happy to go on the journey for now.
Have to admit, I've never gotten why anyone thinks ending on Capaldi's run is the best option. People were always ragging on him too and couldn't wait to see the back of him and Moffat. Then Jodie and Chibs took over and suddenly he's the best Doctor ever? Yeah, forget that noise, Capaldi didn't impress me then and he still doesn't. Dude's a good actor but his series weren't the best by any stretch of the imagination. There's so many other NuWho episodes that serve as decent jumping off points, like Journey's End, The Big Bang, and yeah, even The Giggle are all better than Twice Upon A Time
Capaldi is a good actor and has some good episodes, but his run started the lazy scripting and they were focusing on Clara over him and a lot of the audience didn’t like her. Plus she stayed too long and overstayed her welcome and she overshadowed the Doctor in many stories. It was more or less the Clara show for about two seasons. This is around when executives at the BBC started to try to control the content in Doctor Who because over at Big Finish they had a lot of lackluster stories starting around that time as well. At times Moffit would still have a great script, but it was rarer than it used to be, it felt like either his heart wasn’t in it or he was fighting with someone else over content control
Yeah, Clara was at her worst during series eight. That was rock bottom for the whole show at that point. I think she was handled better in series 9, but then that's when she got her comeuppance, I was very happy with the final three episodes of that series. Heaven Sent is the best Capaldi episode and Hell Bent I find underrated, despite being outright hated by the fandom for underdelivering on Gallifrey and copping out on Clara's death.
I'll agree about Capaldi's first and third seasons, but not his second. His second season was the best season since Tennant's third, and in some ways, even better than that. It was nearly all horror based stories, something the show hadn't done since the Season 3 of Tom Baker, Clara was finally doing great things and I loved how she was becoming wreckless because she had nothing to lose, the two part stories were fantastic, and so on.
Hot take here, but I don't think Jodie and Chibs' stuff was anywhere near as bad as 'peak' Capaldi. I enjoy series twelve and Flux way more than series eight and ten.
