The first episodes are poor because they have to focus more on introducing a new asthetic to the series than the story. Series 1: New Doctor, new companion Series 2: Another New Doctor, same companion Series 3: Same Doctor, though sad, new companion Series 4: Same Doctor, still sad, new companion
Not great. The story seemed to be run of the mill affair, designed to start off the series with tried and tested and not offend anyone. Except Fat people. Donna actually brings a new dimension to the companion, she doesn't fancy the Doctor and is only out to see 'it all' which was an aspect of Rose that was touched on but ultimately dropped in favour of her fancying the Doctor. Spoiler The ending was the best bit in the show, I didn't expect it at all... I thought the whole point of Rose being stranded in the other dimension is because any travel through will weaken dimensional barriers, thus risking the release of the Daleks? I can see hoards of the little creatures littering TRU's all over the UK... And if we're talking about Torchwood, I like the second series alot. Except I record the episodes as I go along, and I'm up to the penultimate episode. So cheers for that final episode spoiler, dude on the first page.
I liked it. I thought it was funny, well written, entertaining and light-hearted, with an OMG moment at the end. (Unlike the rest of you I steered clear of all the spoilers humanly possible, so I'd only heard vague rumours about Rose showing up.) Three years in, and there's still so much grumpiness about new Who online, despite so many people in the real world liking it. Different expectations for different audiences, maybe. I dunno, I just wish I could understand the hate.
I too was in the crowd that didnt expect Rose. I'd read that she was turning up at some point, but I never expected it to be then. That was a complete WTF moment. I can see the Doctor being really pleased if Tikgnat's theory is true. Rose comes back, minor sidepoint, she may have released a lot of Daleks too. Oops.
I thought it was an alright episode, the ending was a big teaser though. I'm not that big a fan of Russell's writing though, i just don't like it much. I've found myself liking the episodes written by other people much more interesting and enjoyable. Mark Gatiss writes them better IMO.
Its all about wasted potential as far as I am concerned. Tennant is great, some of the writers are good and its already proved that a mass family audience isn't a barrier to delivering quality material that doesn't make the more demanding part of the audience cringe. Regurdless of all that thougth, every Satan Pit or Human Nature is surrounded by an acre of medicority scattered with the odd turd. I only get angry because its a franchise that I like, I woulden't give two shits if we were talking about something like Stargate or Farscape.
Am I the only one who doesn't want to see the daleks for a season? I mean there great and all but can't we have a season without them for once?
I want to see Cybermen from Mondos, not these Cybus trademarked ones. Daleks, they are the main connection between the series and casual fans, so I think the writers are going to keep them in.
I was hoping Rose wouldn't turn up until the very end of the season. It's also nice to see a companion that isn't interested in falling in love with the Doctor. And as for Torchwood, I was hoping they wouldn't get rid of Owen..
I agree. I much preferred the old days when the Doctor and has travelling companion were just good friends. This whole 'romantic' angle is way overplayed in modern Doctor Who.
i really hope that isn't a spoiler i haven't seen the last episode of Torchwood yet. Spoiler I know he's dead but still walking around but if anything else happens to him i don't want to know.
5 seconds is my guess buddy. I actually quite enjoyed the episode, but then I really like Tennant's Doctor, so I can almost forgive my utter dislike of Catherine Tate. I look forward to the rest of the series, and I welcome Daleks, or rather I welcome them actually being a serious, consistent threat, and not just get dicked on after about half an episode. And I really want Dalek Sek back, even in his squid head human guise, I liked him. More Cybermen would defiently be appreciated and I don;t really care what they do with Rose. I find it mildy hilarious that I've seen her quite a bit on TV, but never in person. That probaly sounds ridiculous untill you take into account that she basically lived with Chris Evans next door but one to me for many years. I can't wait to see this series develope and I hope that Tate doens;t ball's it up too much. Was it Moffat who wrote the awesome episodes (Blink and the two-parter doctor in hiding-with-the-cameleon-arch-thing) last year? We defiently need more of him...
Moffat wrote Blink, Paul Cornell did Human Nature. I liked this episode. Quite a bit more than I expected to, in fact. The Adipose were adorable little buggers, and I was pleasantly surprised to find Donna nowhere near as annoying as she was last time around. Sure, she had some screechy moments, but if she's going to be like this all season I can easily put up with her. As of right now she's far less annoying than several original series companions I can think of (Peri and Mel leap most readily to mind - poor Colin Baker couldn't catch a break on any front). Still, I'd rather have Martha back. The story was a kind of a fluff piece, but it was pretty harmless. Not Davies' best, far from his worst. The little cameo at the end was definitely interesting. Didn't expect to see Rose this early in the season. I'm definitely curious to see what's up with this. Not surprised that we'll see the Daleks again. After all, the series finale is supposed to feature Davros. So long as it's better than the clunker of a Dalek story last season, I can't complain too much. On the upside, we'll also be getting the Sontarans. I just hope we'll eventually get around to my personal favorite: the Ice Warriors.
I knew Davros still had to be out there still, just as long as the don't try and CG him up. It also means that the Daleks aren't extinct as Davros still has some that're loyal to him i imagine. Just as long as the episode doesn't end with little left for him.
i rather liked the episode. not spectacular but nor horrible either. oddly enough i find Tate to be watchable here compared to her horrible sketch comedy show.
