I love episodes like this. While some may consider it "filler", I think of it as something that really expands and fleshes out the world that the Thundercats are in. Look at all of those different animals/species we saw! It's the same reason two of my favorite Star Wars scenes are the Cantina and Jabba's palace: I see all of those different creatures and my imagination takes over, wondering at what their stories are.

Aside from that it was a good, solid way for Lion-O to get his ass kicked and learn some serious skills, something he desperately needed. While watching it my wife asked, "Why the hell is Lion-O fighting him anyway? Why doesn't he just leave?" and at first I thought, hey, you're right, he's got the money for supplies he should just go. But then I thought about what a cocky hot-headed young man might do in real life: fight.

Really a great episode, and just like last week's made me yearn for armored up figures of Leo and Mumm-Ra, this one makes me yearn for a Drifter figure. Stephen Root's voice for him was priceless.

Enjoyed this episode a lot more than the one before it. Great lesson, great story, and great animation.

Kind of miss the days when Mumm-Ra was everyone though :lol

The Drifter a reference to Akira Kurosawa flicks and Usagi Yojimbo?

I know right! The whole time I watched it, I was like. OH SHIT! Usagi Yojimbo! All he needed to be was white! Would have been cool to stick a Turle in the background as one of the Swordsmen trying to cut the boulder! (would have caused a geek overload)

Now for a potential TF/ Thundercats cross over moment! Is it just me, or did anyone else see Slizardo in the background, right after the scene where Lion-O cuts the boulder in half and they celebrate!

Another great ep! I really liked that Lion-O got it in the end.

I found it online an hour ago and I must say like every episode so far it is great. Too bad they are taking a break next week.

This episode was awesome, and the Drifter character was really cool.

I really hope a lot of these side characters are getting incorporated into the 6" line!

You know there is something wrong when a one off villain and a side character are more entertaining than the show's main protagonists.

I liked what they are doing with the show, and I like the direction and I get what they're trying to accomplish, but they're trying way too hard on these "Life lessons."

I really liked how in the middle of a sword fight Lion-o figured out that he could dodge instead of attacking all the time. It's like he learned to channel an inner Goku for no reason. And then he was suddenly able to overpower a master swordsmen...yeah. Then you change the life of a drifter who totally "didn't care" and somehow refound himself when it was he who led Lion-o on to begin with. No. Sorry. I just can't let that go.

Suspension of belief is getting harder and harder. Animation is standard static Anime, zero character development outside of Lion-o's "herp derp" antics. I love the setting, and I love the designs. But it's really getting hard to enjoy any of the characters when they and the action gets logically inconsistent.

It has all the right stuff to be a great show, but it keeps missing the mark over and over.

I get what you saying. In the original, Lion-o had a lot of life lessons episodes so maybe they are "keeping it true to the original" which I like but I do hope for more main storyline episodes too.

You must have not watched the original Thundercats? Lion-O going thru random adventures, and learning how to be King is pretty much what the entire show was about! He was mentally a child, but had the body of a man. But here, he is really an inexperience teen learning on the fly.

On another side note, Lion-O sounded a lot more like Terry McGinnis tonight. (I know its the same actor) Which is cool.

    Solid episode.

Because it's a kids show I'm willing to give it a pass on the somewhat heavy handed lesson of the episode and how fast the 180 came in the duel, as well as the duel itself not being the best choreographed from a pure swordplay POV.

That said, everything else was great. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Really good episode, a little filler, but had an actual point to it as well. Couple of questions:

    1) Who else thought there should have been a Hachi-Man reference somewhere?

    2) Stephen Root did the voice of the Drifter (Bill from King of the Hill). Who did the voice of the Duelist (Been bugging me since I saw it)

Who knows maybe Drifter gives Hachiman his grass cutter back.

This episode world builds Third Earth.

For one thing Thunderan money was used beyond its borders. Meaning it didn't just conquer but trade outside.

I think I saw a cat in the crowd. So Cats aren't isolated in the kingdom of Thundera.

There are more species than Mumm-Ra's slaves. The swordsman town looks like a fine place to start a adventure party. Potential allies even if they weren't Mumm-Ra's animals.
