Looking to get back into it and wondering if there's anything good out there? I really liked Hayao Miyazaki films if that helps. I hoping to get back into anime for old nostalgia sack and want to see the best of the best, the cream of the crop and so on and so forth. Please help.

    Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
    Black Lagoon
    The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex
    Genshiken
    Samurai Champloo
    Eureka Seven
    Berserk

...then there's the two mecha juggernauts of Gundam and Macross.

...plus a new Miyazaki film is being released in the US.

Stay FARRRRRRRRRRR away from crap like Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece.

    Some of my favorites:

    - Samurai Champloo
    - Eureka Seven
    - Samurai 7
    - Cowboy Bebop
    - Fullmetal Alchemist
    - Hellsing Ultimate - Currently only up to Volume 4 in the US.
    - Paranoia Agent
    - Perfect Blue
    - Neon Genesis Evangelion - It's not as good as some people say, and not as bad as other people say, but it's worth watching as an influential title, if nothing else.
    - Trigun
    - Elfen Lied

If you like Miyazaki films let me suggest Castle of Cagliostro if you haven't already seen it. I'll also suggest Turn A Gundam for a series as a lot of people, including myself, think it has the feel of a Miyazaki movie, and it's just a good series overall.

If you like Miyazaki stuff, I'd actually steer you more towards stuff like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Voices of a Distant Star.

I'd give you some movies instead, like 5cm per Second, Barefoot Gen, Grave Of The Fireflies (made by either Miyazaki or Ghibi, which one, I forget), Tekkonkinkreet, Paprika, Sword Of The Stranger. Well, you have a couple of hours there.

Yes, go watch The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Tremendous in either English, or Japanese.

I'd suggest "Whisper of the Heart", then. :)  Here's a cute scene from it:

YouTube - Country road, trans from japanese film "Mimi wo sumaseba"

There's also "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" (as others have suggested).

Could you give us some idea of what you're into, though? Anime isn't a genre, it's a style, so there's something for everyone out there. :)

Code Geass is quite good (forgot to add that to my list), including Lunar Legend Tsukihime and Appleseed (CGI version).
