Horror Movie Chilhood Memories That Are Unidentified

Hey, everyone!

Since Halloween is coming up (and followed directly by Christmas without much mention of Thanskgiving), I was wondering if any of you folks have vague/abstract memories of old horror movies that, to this day, you can't remember where they came from? Stuff that might have been rented by a sibling or a parent that you happened to see? Something that was on Creature Features or Captain USA? That sort of thing.

For the longest time, I remembered a movie that's ending involved a woman being pulled from her bed by little goblins and carried down into a pit in a fireplace. This turned out to be "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark", a made-for-tv movie in the same vein of "Trilogy of Terror", i.e, it was shown on TV and managed to be scary nightmare-fuel using the restrictions of Practice and Standards.

But there's two movies I remember that I haven't identified yet. One involved an evil ventriloquist's dummy with magic powers controlling a young boy's will. He had a monocle and would say "Waaaaaatch!" to the kid when he did something with his magic, like kill a toy robot.

The other had some sort of floating green demon/genie/d'jinn thing with horns. I think it took place in a museum or college campus, because it had the whole "dead teenager" formula seen in "Friday the 13th" and half the slasher movies from the '80s. I remember a snake attack, a guy being killed by the leather studded mask he was wearing, and the demon/genie thing ramming into doors trying to get a girl wearing a ring that wouldn't come off when he wanted it.

If anybody has ANY idea to what the HELL I'm rambling about, please lemme know and share any similar things!

Afraid what you rescreibe rings no bells for me, but I've had something similar.

Not a horror movie, but a cartoon with horror elements for me. I remeber a scene where there are all these children being forced to work in a mine tpye thing, and then you see the kids being stolen from their homes by a portal opening beneath their beds and a arm (possibly a full demon/monster thing) reaching through and grabbing them, and we see one kids dad run and get an axe to try and protect his kid.

I have absolutely no idea what that was from. Wish I did...

Thanks to Draven for the kickass sig!...

IT'S COLON BURNING TIME!!!!...

One I remembered but for the longest time never knew the title was an episode of Tales From the Darkside episode Seasons of Belief. Killer monster with tree trunk sized arms and big ears lives at the North Pole. If you say his name he will come and kill you.

Holy crap! THAT'S the movie!

And speaking of Tales From The Darkside, do you remember the episodes "In The Closet" or "Trick or Treat"? Classic stuff and I'm glad Sci-Fi is airing the reruns again.

Sadly I own a VHS of it. A long time ago I worked in a grocery store. They had a video rental in the store. They were selling a bunch of movies. I like MST3K and have a love for bad cinema. I picked this, Troll 2, and 2-3 other movies up. When you described the film I knew it most likely was Making Contact. A long time ago I even wrote a review of it.

BTW did you notice who wrote and directed it? Roland Emmerich!

Never really watched TFtD. I just remember that episode because I watched it once and had to go to dinner. It was near Thanksgiving or Christmas when I first saw it.

For me, it was something I saw on TV. All I can remember is a miner or caver, with the helmet and helmet-mounted torch, trapped between two small walls, and a lot of images of faces super-imposed over his. Whatever was going on, this guy was freaking out, and so was I at all of 3-5

Nearly everything else I've figured out from other things, although the show with the Ark-2 took a bit of digging.

Ladies and gentlemen, issue 1 has been posted!

Yes I remember that movie "Don't Be Afraid of The Dark". I watched it on a Tuesday night on ABC back in the 70's when I was a kid.

How many of you remember the movie "The Evil"? It was filmed inside of a large mansion in New Mexico back in 1981. I just received the movie on VHS from Ebay. It is not available on dvd. There is another horror movie made back in 1981 called "The Nesting", I read the movie will be out dvd sometime this year.

But the best haunted house movie I think is "The Haunting(1964)". The remake of the movie back in 1999 sucked.

To this day, two particularly haunting scenes I saw on television as a kid remain vivid in my memory. I'm fairly certain both came from horror movies, but I'm not sure if they were from the same film or different ones.

The first is one of a steam locomotive slowly advancing through the night out of a patch of mist, right towards the camera. The vehicle's either dark blue or black, and has a pair of pouting, red lips painted on the leading surface of the cylindrical portion of its engine.

The second is a closeup view of a man's face as he slowly turns to face the camera. It is only when he faces us completely that we see his entire head is made out of black plastic (the kind you use to make garbage bags), and that he has a zipper for a mouth.

Can anyone help identify these?

There may be no peace for the wicked, but the righteous can damn well get a piece whenever they feel like it.
