Cool. I found this part of the article sort of hackney though Come on guy, you just had to shove some Star Wars in there didn't you?
I gladly await a full restoration of this recovered film. The original was 2.5 hours and they've cut it to shreds. Some cuts are 80-85 minutes, while others (the KINO video release) are around 100 minutes long. It will be nice to finally see it as the director intended it, but if the original German audiences were correct, this sucker could be a real snoozefest.
I'd love to see this in it's entirety at last. I've seen a couple of versions of Metropolis - included a version that seemed to have a lot of Queen songs added to it...
Actually, there was a version that was colorized and had special effects added to it and was released in 1986. It's known as the Georgio Moroder version. He had stars like Bonnie Tyler, Pat Benetar, and Freddie Mercury (Queen's lead) write songs based on key scenes of the film and it's basically one giant music video. Metropolis pseudo-fans seem to enjoy it, the public was kinda iffy on it, and purists hate it.
Wow. Just wow. It's kind of funny, I was just talking to some people about the full length feature film of Metropolis. I'm a huge fan of the film, I've got two different cuts, one is the shorter 88 minute one and the other is the KINO "Most Complete" cut from the Fritz Lang Boxset. I've seen a "colorized" version of it, and the one with the rock music. When I was a student at U of M, I wrote several film papers on it. I will eagerly buy and watch this complete version, this is truly awesome news!
That's pretty cool. I've always wanted to see Metropolis. Very interesting that it was found so far away.
Coool! I've always liked Metropolis. I've also always thought that if it was ever remade it should be done as an animated film (an no that anime thing with the same title but not the same plot doesn't count). I'm writing my first fantasy novel. It's set in Germany and for the hero I chose the name Frieder, because I liked the name, after the hero in Metropolis.
There's still a long way to go before you see the full product out there to the masses, but good to know that it will be coming.
