We all have our weaknesses. For example, I love 'Bloodsport' starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.

But we need to be able to recognise that these are bad movies.

u mad?

Without remakes, we would not have had Cronenberg's Fly or Carpener's Thing. Crappy remakes (Planet of the Apes anyone?) tend to be forgotten quickly.

The question in my mind is "Is there anything new that can be done with this premise" - and I mean beyond the FX. I think so. I think TDTESS was handled rather simply (given its time),and could be expanded into a much more interesting tale. So many stories to tell about this. Hell, I would love to see it adapted into an 8-12 part miniseries by HBO.

Or heck, how about a SEQUEL to the original? What effect did Klattuu's last visit have on Earth? How did we really respond? Why were the aliens so intent on having us disarm before the blew us all to hell?

But to turn it into a mindless "Go green, dude!" propaganda piece? Pass.

It was an inevitable remake really, but I think I'll give it a miss.

Actually, IIRC, many years ago there was a script commissioned for a DTESS sequel that involved Klaatu's daughter or something of that nature. One of the online movie script sites might have it somewhere.

I'd rather see a sequel. That could at least be entertaining.

But as for this remake, yeah, I'll go ahead and not see this, thanks.
Ah, the daily dose of Spiderus Prime. It does a body good.
