If we got even a quarter of the consideration or convenience that dub fans enjoy, I'd be quite thrilled. I could as easily say that you're just being dismissive because you can't think of a good counter. If you can't contribute some actual substance, don't bother. | The whole Robotech/Macross thing has more to do with licensing than dubbing itself.
As stated before. Dubbing is popular. As such, it gets to be on tv. Subtitles aren't popular. As such, it doesn't get to be on tv. It's how tv works. And the convention thing is the same. A convention is made to accommodate thousands of people. They have to go with what the majority wants.
And lastly, dubbed anime is the reason anime got popular in the first place. I'm not saying you have to like dubbing, but that is a fact that you cannot deny. The Great Action Master Thundercracker Thread (Last update 11/23/09)

That doesn't keep it from being frustrating. Moreover, if people didn't prefer dubbing so much of the time... *gasp!* Why, it wouldn't be more popular, would it? I mean, that's how popularity works. It's not an intrinsic property of dubbing itself. And if dubbing didn't have the overwhelming popularity, then people who prefer subtitles would receive better treatment, yes? So then it's frustrating for a lot of fans that so many people prefer dubs, right? And that's what Spider was asking about, so it's quite relevant here. I'm not saying you have to agree with all of the reasoning, but this much is also a fact that you cannot deny.
As for Robotech. Yes, the main roadblock is a messy licensing issue. Here's the rub though. Suppose the impossible happens and virtually nobody watches dubbed anime anymore. Who then is going to buy four or five different releases of Robotech from Harmony Gold? Nobody. So where is the continued revenue stream from the Robotech brand? Gone. So what incentive would there be to expend resources trying to protect the license and expand it in ways it was never meant to be applied? Virtually none. Then it would be about like when Macross II and Plus were released here, with HG not bothering to try any scare tactics. |
