Okay. Not really needed, but I'd definitely rather watch a Carpenter-produced Halloween than a Bay-produced Friday the 13th.

I'm all for a new Halloween, but I'm doubting Carpenter will have any actual involvement in this. Him being a producer only means they paid him money to put his name on it. Plus, this would be 2000s Carpenter, not 1980s Carpenter, so yeah. I'm going to remain skeptical, but I do hope he actually does something with it.

2000s Carpenter is underrated. I really do not understand why Ghosts of Mars is not more highly regarded. It's excellent, classic Carpenter.

I was wondering the same thing just very recently. The theme came into my head after years and I just had to crack open the dvd and revisit it.

Certain aspects of the production are kinda laughable, some sets and effects can look cheap, and 'Big Daddy Mars' looks like such reheated nineties metal, that the film looked dated before it'd been released. And yet it's tremendous fun start to finish.

In a way I can understand why it wasn't well received on release, but it's definitely classic Carpenter and I expect people to warm up to it with the passage of time. Damn shame it basically killed his career for years.

Because it is boring, the acting is dreadful (sure, he has had bad acting in his previous movies, but nothing like this), the ending is the beginning of the movie, and the effects are garbage. His effects from the 80s look more realistic than the effects in Ghost of Mars. There is nothing classic about it as it doesn't even feel like a classic film of his. His last great movie was In the Mouth of Madness as Escape from LA, The Ward, and one of the episodes he did from Masters of Horror were dreadful.

Carpenter is probably my favourite director! He made half of my favourite movies growing up, at the time I never realised he was the one making them! Halloween, Christine, Escape from New York, The Thing, They Live, Big Trouble in little China, Attack on Precinct 13. All classics!

Vampires and Ghosts were good shoot-em-ups, but they're not the high note Captenter deserves to end on, maybe this will be a return to glory!

I would be sceptical...I LOVE Carpenter. One of my fave directors but They Live remains the last movie of his that I like.

    Assault On Precinct 13
    Halloween
    The Fog
    Escape From New York
    The Thing
    Big Trouble In Little China
    They Live

all bonafide classics to me........everything after? Meh......

So the director of Hush is apparently already in talks to direct. Might be a decent choice, movie shows that he might be able to manage a lower budget Halloween film really well.

I'd rather either David Robert Mitchell, Joe Edgerton, or Robert Eggers directed the next Halloween.

I enjoyed it too.....its by FAR the best stab at remaking something of Carpenters.....but all the remakes of his work (including this one) miss the point in some way or another.

AOP13 remakes big miss was the bad guy helping out......in the original we knew next to nothing about Napoleon Wilson played by Darwin Joston except he was one BAD motherfucker on his way to death row. You didn't know the second this dude was gonna kill the shit out of everybody in the station

in the remake he is fleshed out and explained(to the detriment of the character just like Myers in the remake) as a stereotypical tough hood from the hood......and the entire plot is about him.

Which also took away from it becasue the original was just about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. In the remake, everything is planned out.

I read the title and thought John Carter or Mars was getting a Halloween themed sequel.

Halloween Again: Murder in the nursing home.

Yeah, cause all these decades later return/sequels work out so well. This is about as sad as bringing Arnold back yet again for another terminator.
