Anyone watching this? New drama on USA.

Had absolutely zero expectations for it and started watching randomly through dinner last night, but found the story, acting, and the visuals very smart and well done. Finished the first episode just in time to tune in for the second as it aired.

Just a really neat premise because it's told from the eyes of a mentally unstable person who may or may not be completely out of his mind on morphine for most of the episode. The viewer kinda has to assume the responsibility of deciding if what he's seeing and experiencing is reality, or just him tweaking out. It throws characters at you who you'd like to assume are the good or bad guys, but again, you are seeing things through the eyes of an addict and his reality might not be true. Very cool ideas and I'm really digging how it's playing out so far.

Anyways, it's on wednesdays at 9 central. Very cool first couple episodes, imo. Really surprised that it's actually pretty good.

I just caught up on all the episodes after some recommendations, and I am so glad I checked this show out. It's probably one of the best shows out there at the moment. The directing, writing, and cinematography are all done magnificently, and there is a lot of visual storytelling. I am definitely looking forward to going back through all the episodes again when the season ends to see what I missed. I've seen Rami Malek in a few small roles before like in Need For Speed and Night at the Museum, but I didn't know he was such a good actor. He is able to convey so much with just eyes, and he was fantastic in the last episode with the dream sequence.

I actually watched the first two eps and was excited for this show, loved the premise and thought I'd like it.... but... just not keeping me interested, I actually fell asleep twice in the last ep... it's a bit of a drag at times... and nope, wasn't expecting a blow'em up action series, but I might look again if there's nothing else on in the same time slot. Just not my taste I guess.

I am watching this and it's terrific. I have never seen such a beautifully shot TV show before.

This show kicks ass all over the place.

Is Mr Robot all in his head like Tyler Durden?

That's what I think. That seemed to be what his dream a couple episodes ago was hinting at in my opinion.

Also, poor Shayla. I hope Elliott gets back at Vera by the end of the season.

Just started watching this last week after hearing a lot of good things. This show is amazing. As noted, the direction, cinematography, and writing are all great. The music is also great and adds a lot to each scene.

Definitely dig the realistic tech talk in the shows. I heard that was something they were priding themselves on. I keep listening in and thinking "yeah, it sounds like they know what they're talking about", even if I'm not 100% sure.

Really interested to see where this goes.

Agreed. It was probably the best episode yet. They hit us with two big twists. They basically gave use
two family twists from Star Wars
in the last ten minutes and it revealed a lot about Elliott's mind.
I had a feeling Mr. Robot was his father, but I didn't think it would happen. I was definitely surprised about Darlene being his sister.

Yeah, watched it last night. Pretty damn great. Elliot became totally unhinged at the end of the episode and really went after the fourth wall they've been playing with all season...
if his name is even Elliot.

Didn't really see either of the reveals coming at the end of the episode. Did think it was a bit odd that
Darlene and Angela knew each other
at the beginning of the episode.\

Anyone else catch the "Intergalactic Planetary" video game in the arcade? Beastie Boys reference?

Also, it took me until the second watching of some of the episodes to notice that the arcade building is called "F society".

I was just thinking about the earlier theories about how Mr. Robot was just in Elliott's head. Then I thought about some of the evidence like Darlene laughing when Elliott asked who the leader of Fsociety is. At first, I thought it was because he was the leader. In reality, it's just because he should have known that it was their father.
    That's great writing right there.

Yeah, I just recently got caught up too, and that last episode was crazy.

I love movies/shows that play with characters' mind/memories. Good stuff.

Oh, sweet, there's a thread for this show now!

Yeah, like everybody else has said, this show's been a total rollercoaster and for the most part does not disappoint (namely because it's impossible to know what to expect anymore :lol )

    However, on the subject of
what Eliot knows or doesn't know, it raises a question on how much Angela knows since she was established as pretty much the only anchoring point Eliot has on reality. But they only know each other, alegedly, because they lost a parent to Evil Corp's corperate corner cutting and subsequent Lukemia.

But if Mr. Robot really is Eliot's dad...then he can't have died of Lukemia.

In fact, Eliot's entire motivation for having gone back to fsociety was effectively revenge for them indirectly killing his dad. Only...he's not dead.

Yeah, when it comes to Mr. Robot, I think those in this thread that brought up the whole
Fight Club/Tyler Durden thing might still be right. I've been watching pretty closely, and I haven't once seen anyone talk to or acknowledge both Mr. Robot and Elliot at the same time, in the same scene -- it's always one or the other. So Mr Robot is either Elliot's second identity, that looks like his dad, OR it was all a very cleaver misdirect, and Mr Robot really is Elliot's living, breathing father.

    Actually, I think
Robot and Eliot have been acknowledged simultaneously at least once...only the legitimacy of that scene is sketchy given it was during the episode where Eliot was stoned out of his mind and had memory seizures or something.

Of course, everything in this show can be something other than it seems given it's made clear in the first episode the only POV driving the story is Eliot's...and he's far from a reliable narrator. My mom actually ended up having to remind me after one episode that the antagonist corporation was really named "E-Corp" instead of "Evil Corp" as everybody in the show has been saying all because that's what Eliot hears instead.

You're right, that was the one scene where I went "Oh" -- but then I chalked the whole thing up as a fever-dream, since it looked like he never left the motel at all.

Ha, yeah, Elliot literally sees and hears "E Corp" as "Evil Corp" at all times. That did throw me off at first, when other people were saying it at Allsafe, but I think one of the episode re-caps showed a quick "E Corp" to "Evil Corp" sign change.

definitely a show I will be watching through again to catch everything that I didn't the first time.

but yeah, the fight club scenario could still be in play. perhaps he doesn't quite realize how much of his memory he has altered to avoid the pain of reality. everyone that has come close to him and either moved on or died has been wiped from both his memory and HDD, filed onto discs.
his dad may really be dead, and elliot has absorbed his persona in order to be able to deal with the pain of losing him, or achieve the more complicated things in life he couldn't do himself
    .

the only factor I see against that is tyrell. tyrell has been with both elliot and robot, and has addressed them differently, even acted differently around both of them. he pushes a sense of fear onto elliot, and is basically in awe of robot. that is the only, only factor that has me really siding with robot
    actually being his father
