I was all about Thomas the Tank Engine when I was little. At one point my room was just Thomas everything, wallpaper, bedding, pyjamas, clothes, and a mountain of toys. I've still got a bunch of the VHSs in my Dad's loft. Looking back, I think it probably had the highest body-count of any TV show ever. Seriously, what must the death rate have been for those troublesome trucks? I always thought it was hilarious when Percy had enough of their shit and shoved a bunch of them over the edge of the harbour. Also, a Thomas thread is never complete without this absolute treat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MUzA3RmeIM
One thing about this show, the crashes were spectacular! Easily one of my favorite parts of the show.
Oh God thomas was my life as a child. I made sure i had all the VHS copys. I had thomas pajamas, the tomeka motorized toys, and hell, I was even taken to see thomas(or the train that looked like him that gave people train rides). My parents still have the tape of my reaction when I saw him. As embarassing as it is, even I have to admit its priceless. I mean, I flipped my shit.
Ah, Thomas. That was my favorite show when I was little. Haven't watched much of it in years. I'm not old enough to have more than a slight nostalgia for it. Although, I am old enough to be annoyed by it becoming a cartoon. Or maybe that's just because I'm a big fan of practical effects. Damn newfangled CGI.
Thomas the Tank Engine is huge in my family; I as a child loved it, as did my brothers when they were little. I still really like watching some of the older episodes because the miniature work is just amazing to watch. What really kept the interest alive in my house was that my grandfather himself was into model railways (which he's reknewing his passion for with a local club) and he and I had our own Hornby Electric train layouts. I even crossed over with TF, by using Lego to make missile batteries and point defence systems so that the heroic Autobots could defend Sodor.
Ahh Thomas, I was basically obsessed with him growing up. Had a lot of the Wooden toys, the Tomy motorized ones, that one where you take Thomas apart, even more Wooden ones and various DVDs of the early seasons (despite growing up in the later ones). I even had some of the Bachmann models. You cannot believe how infuriated I was when my mom threw out a majority of these (excluding what's left of the Wooden ones). You have an awesome family.
Are you kidding me?! I've loved Thomas since childhood! It actually helped me to better understand facial expressions because I have Aspergers. Gordon is perhaps my all time favourite engine because who doesn't like a big blue engine that is a know it all, shows off, and eventually becomes humbled when he's put in his place after an accident. Deep down, Gordon does have a kind heart, he just rarely shows it. Let's not forget that he has the funniest moments. An example would be that when he helped Thomas and Rusty push away snow, but he made so much noise with his whistle that he got covered with snow. He made this hilarious "eh oh!" in a high pitched voice and I cried with laughter. XD Thomas the Tank Engine is still my favourite to this day, and I'm very sad that they turned it into CGI. But what makes me even sadder is that Michael Angelis left the UK/AUS version after over twenty years of being the narrator.
*late to contiue this but uhh* Thomas THomas fandom is getting eveyrhting that it wants. AND IT STILL COMPLAINS!
Really? They asked for some of the greatest miniature and model work to be taken over by half-assed CGI?
Not that. Duck, Oliver, Toad, Donlad Doglas, Daisy, anmd the Aresdale Railway are appering/Returning! And they STILL complain!
Ah yes Thomas. Loved that when I was a kid. But I've put all that behind me now. *casually hides several large containers of wooden and plastic trains that I still have*
Thomas was one of my absolute favorite childhood cartoons. Had videos I used to watch over and over again. And I also remember getting the whole plastic train set for Christmas of '98 I think and I still have them all. I guess back then I never really thought too hard on who was my favorite. Thomas was a given of course but I guess now that I think about it I'd probably go with James.
I just watched The Magic Railroad. I cried some hard tears when Lady came back to life. It felt so good to feel that same magic I felt so long ago.
I was all about Thomas when i was a kid. Had the diecast toys, the little cart you could ride around on and lift the seat to store things in, the VHS tapes, everything. Then I met the ninja turtles and moved on, but I will always have a special spot in my heart for Thomas (like Sooty as well). I got a job at a train station when I was 22 as well, my mum bought me a thomas cake to celebrate
