Oswalt voices Uncle Ben in the new "Marvel's Spider-Man" cartoon, so that might be where that came from.
I’m honestly tired of the whole Uncle Ben element. I think it works, but not when they use it as Peter’s main driving factor like Batman’s parents. Everybody dies, thats part of life. Sometimes it’s earlier then you think and not in the way you would want, but it happens. In the real world the topic would be more tender then what gets him out of bed and into costume every morning. You gotta learn to let go but still remember. I mean why else would Ben be introduced if not to die and serve as a point of motivation for Peter? What else has that character every really done besides that?
That's just it, in the original comics, they never drove Uncle Ben down our throats like they have in more recent years. Yes, Peter always felt guilty about what happened, but he only brought it up in certain instances when the plot needed him to such as in issue 50 and like 3 other issues between 1-104.
Moving the discussion to this thread.... (And than you for respecting my view.) Pete spent SPH being the opposite of being responsible, as part of his character arc. He got carried away with the use of Stark's tech, and when he nearly got people killed it was taken off him so he had to rely on his own inventiveness and skills to stop the Vulture. It's something he should have learnt earlier on, I agree about that. But then the film had also made Tony Stark a father figure, or more accurately the second father figure Peter has had after Ben Parker. We could look at as Tony stepping into Ben's place, as affecting peter. So he had to learn about responsibility the non-direct "nearly causing death" way, rather than the classic "directly causing death" way. That's how I see it.
I get what you are saying, but the way I see it is they had another story to tell in this movie. Peter alludes to not wanting May to know he's Spiderman because she already has enough in her head to deal with. That covered it for me. It is just like the Batman aspect you mentioned - it's there, but not necessary to discuss in each movie. Peter's younger. Just by going from recent events in the news regarding kids, some of them seem to be able to put aside tragic things for a few moments when doing snapchats or selfies. I think that's normal for most kids....most people, really. Peter is so focused on the fact he took Cap's shield and building on that success for Stark's approval. That's the angle they went with. I just don't think that's so out of the ordinary for the character, especially when the underlying theme is his wanting to be a hero for others.
Definitely the most overrated Marvel movie along with Guardians of the galaxy 1 though not as bad as Iron Man 2 and 3 or Thor 1.
