I miss the old 80's Filmation cartoons. It's a shame the story was not completed before the horde was defeated and Etheria freed. Did anyone else but me want Adora to go back home to Etheria with He-man at the end of "The Secret of the Sword"?

i saw that movie recently. Secret of the Sword was a really stupid episode. where the villains are very lazily defeated. but if you really truly miss it, i am pretty sure you can buy it now on dvd. and it is available on netflix.

Just a heads up, but He-Man was not a cartoon that was ever going to have an ending.

Those were great cartoons for its time, a simple good vs evil tale featuring a cast of memorable characters (the star of which was undoubtedly Alan Oppenheimer's Skeletor as a gleefully evil villain).

The moral lessons featured may come off a bit sanctimonious nowadays. But they're still some fairly good entertainment, no better or worse than G1 or THE SMURFS.

I think he is just referring to the She-Ra storyline, which did seem to have more of a focus on plot than He-Man did. Nevertheless, yeah, it was not going to ever have an ending. The only 80s cartoon that really had an actual ending was Thundercats.

Why wasn't He-man and She-ra going to ever defeat the Horde and free Etheria. Adora at the end of "Day of Flowers" declared, "Someday Etheria will be free!".

Duragrip most American cartoons of the 1980s ( and well into the 1990s) were very episodic in nature with very little to no over reaching story arc, also their main purpose was to sell toys and could and were cancelled with little warning.

That's what made the story of Adora and the Horde different. She-ra had an over-arching storyline. It broke my heart when she flew away from He-man at the end of "The Secret of the Sword". We even see He-man shed a tear. It crushed me and scarred me to this day when She-ra abruptly ended with Adora stuck on Etheria still under the boot of the evil Horde. The final nail in the coffin was when Filmation went down meaning Etheria would never be free and Adora would never be able to go back home to Eternia.

actually, He-man and She-Ra have very similar stories. except opposites.

He-man is defending his world against evil rebels. while She-Ra is a rebel attacking her oppressor. but again, only after He-man opens her eyes.

at least that is what i got from watching the pilot movie for she-ra. oh and everyone who is not he-man and she-ra, are easily defeated by he-man and she-ra. including hordak and especially skeletor.

there was no way either of these series were ever going to have an ending. since they were designed to sell toys. which is why you can basically watch any episode out of order and still get a compete story. this is very common in 80's cartoons. besides multiparters.

Why did they make kids sad by separating Adora from her family on Eternia? Couldn't they have made a happy story if it was just to sell toys?

I wanted He-man and She-ra together, not separated on two different worlds.

I wanted one show with both He-man and She-ra in every episode, alternating between Eternia and Etheria.

That wouldn't sell toys though. Both He-Man and She-Ra were made to sell toys, nothing more, nothing less. Plus, toy sales were down. The She-Ra line never sold as well as the He-Man line did. Hence why She-Ra was canned.

see dr. Kain's answer above for that.

He Man ended up being more popular after it's demise, then it ever was while it was new on the air.

Do you think more toys would have sold if He-man and She-ra were romantic interests, like Barbie and Ken, instead of brother and sister. If they were going after the little girl market, this probably would have made more sense.

During the Christmas Special, Adam and Adora were totally ignoring Teela and Sea Hawk and only had eyes for each other. So my does well go all the way and make them boyfriend and girlfriend. Teela and Sea Hawk would make a good match.
