You should see their Facebook pages. I think I've seen at least 12 posts where they either comment on Naruto fan art, or tag each other in said fan art as certain characters. >.>

If anything, this proves that Naruto was made by a marketing genius.

They RP and cosplay as them all the time XD it's almost scary.

I think you need to remind your friends that they aren't Naruto characters.
