That's the thing, it snags. It slides out just a little until it stops about a centimeter from the face, just so that the switch drops into the hole in the neck. I tried tugging andshifting and tilting the head back flat but to no avail. I even took all the screws out. (even though that did nothing)

I'm looking at you pictures wondering just how you got it out. I can see that it hooks around the face from behide the faceplate, but I just don't see how that can slide out.

What's worse, tugging on it is causing stress marks to form where the chin meets the bar.
