That's even better. To think the answer to the mystery is right there, only no-one believes it to be true.

Just saw your idea for a Jack the Ripper tale; I think it's fantastic and you should definitely run with it. I might offer a bit of a suggestion that I feel might make the story more entertaining/believable - it's up to you whether you want to utilize any portion of it or not.

Have your protagonist NOT set off on a trip through time with the express purpose of becoming the Whitechapel murderer. Perhaps all he initially wanted to do was take a jaunt around Victorian London, but an attempt to use a prostitute's services resulted in a mishap, ending in him developing a taste for killing them. Maybe one of them tried to rip him off, or touched a personal nerve that made him slay her in a fit of rage. Anyway, what happens is that he goes on a blood-soaked rampage through the East End over a period of several weeks, and only about two or three murders into his spree does he realize that he is Red Jack himself. From then on, he struggles with conflicting feelings of disgust and pleasure, and the end of the killings coincides with reason taking over and his departure back to the present. Where he perhaps commits suicide so his murderous nature will not persist during his own time.
