"weaponry"...This may not be Rescue Bots. If it is, this may take the show in a different direction.

I mean we all know how this will end.

It will be a decent to good tv show that won't be G1 so all the regular people will piss blood and claim how it's destroying transformers and then they will spend years bitching how they want it to end so that they can get a TRUE G1 CARTOON.

Then it will end and a new show will be announced and everyone will be NOW IT'S TIME FOR A G1 CARTOON....and it won't be a G1 cartoon and the cycle will continue.

Regardless Bolder can do spectacular work, my nieces love Danger Mouse and Gumball is hilarious so I have hopes that this will be at least as entertaining as RID2015.

Cool. Wonder if a lucky fan'll get the job. I sure know I'd love to see my own TF designs get animated.

    lol pretty much

This is not Rescue Bots because in RB there are no weapons and the vehicles are not really SF,so this is clearly a reboot/RID\'s replacement.I have the feeling that this reboot will be something like G1 or Animated, more like Animated actually.

I just hope its entirely new, Im so sick of Optimus Bumblebee Megatron and Starscream being the main characters of every show with them trying to say \"oh look, its not ENTIRELY old! we have one new character look look!\" Im tired of it, make new the main cast all new characters, or at least lesser known ones.

OK before anyone gets their hopes up Harmony is a great program but it's got it's limits. Rescue bots I believe was made using this and while you can be as complex as you want (if you want traditional) 99% of harmony shows work with a "rig" being made. It's basically a very detailed puppet. So purely from a production stand point I would not get my hopes up for a G1 return or something beyond the detail of Animated. The level or work needed would hugely out weigh any return.

Amen. A mix of rarely featured older characters and completly new characters would be ideal, but please no more op, bee, scream, meg.
What's hopefull is that it specifically says science fiction designs. So maybe this will be a bit more out there than the likes of Animated or Prime.

Depends on the Studio. Toon Boom can Mix 2D and 3D elements. You can import 3D rendered models into it. Transformers Prime used it for instance. It has also been used in animes such as JoJo's bizarre Adventure and Archer uses it heavily. You can do tradition animation in it as well. You don't always need a rigged character. It really just depends on how studios use it. But yes most tend to go with rigged characters because they can reuse a lot of assets later to save money.

I hope it's basically "Transformers meets Justice League Action" in terms of concept.

I just hope the character designs are good and not completely flat like RID's.

Have you ever tried it? Harmony 12.2 is a pain and I had to "train" a few animators to keep tabs on what pegs they use etc because they kept f**king around with the camera etc creating some horrible DOF issues. I'd set the 3d object to be quite small and set the BG's back in Zdepth... but then they would Size it up some insane amount to make it look as if it was moving towards the camera this had an annoying effect of skewing the model as it scaled up (if it some how didn't go though the 2d layers). I was not popular when I told them they should move it in 3d Space and they had to junk what the director had signed off on.

14 has made some big leaps it's the version we've switched to at our studio. It's great to finally be able to track 2nd stuff to a model and always have the 2d element face the camera.

Now saying that I'm not keen on the idea of 3d TF's with 2d characters. Who ever would be behind the compositing and rendering would have a hell of a task for it to look natural and not kinda weird like a lot of 3d anime.

I don't think RID is that bland. It has some of the best Decepticons and probably the best Starscream since Animated.

Autobots are the problem tho, every single one of them have the EXACT SAME torso and the head designs are super unimaginative.

When Windblade ends up as the best designed Autobot on the show you have a problem.

I'm currently teaching 2 2D animation classes that use it. But generally we don't use rigging in those classes.

awesome we need more people in the Harmony world. I work at a studio called Brown Bag Films. they opened a 2D studio almost 2 years ago and I'm luckily on the rigging team. (hey kids watch Nella the Princess Knight on Nick Jr) We use a mix with most traditional being done for the environmental and effects parts.

Tell them if they ever want a job that will always have high demand rigging seems to be the place to be or if they want to keep to traditional effects stuff is good too

As long as it has Energon Gore minus Bayformers, I'm okay with it! We will see Optimus Prime & Megatron again, right? Will Peter Cullen & Frank Welker Reprise their roles?

I keep telling students that, but I have some that insist on using Flash/Animate.....or worse try to do it all in photoshop. I go into a speech about how Toon Boom is an industry standard program now and it will look good on their resumes to know how to use it, but I'm limited on what I can do because of how the class Syllabus is written.

I might actually apply for this, just coming out of my filmmaking degree in Bristol and I've been planning to use my animation skills as a career starting point.
