I thought that was a possible outcome for the question. I was more picky when I was young but a lot of characters ended up dying anyway. Now I complete most groups with Generations but I'm picky about what Masterpiece figures I buy. The closest I came to completing anything as a kid was GI Joe. I wasn't keeping track, I just kept picking them for articulation and bang for your buck. I didn't realize how big of a dent I made in RAH until I saw the line by year menus on 3D Joes.
I was super down on Animated when it first came out. I just hated the way it looked, and it wasn't until they re-aired it on the Hub that I decided "eh, I guess I'll watch it to see what everyone was yelling about", and thought it was... okay. I still find the show incredibly overrated, but I ended up getting most of the toys a couple years ago, and like them a lot.
I'm in a similar situation with my Legendary Voltron except its the green lion that I can\'t find and its driving me crazy.
I'm just picturing Vangelus playing with the Voltron, hitting the sound button and hearing "we need the red lion" and Vangelus yelling back at it "I know!"
In regards to the listener question, the only thing I ever completely disregarded were the smaller size classes (Legends, Minicons, etc). It wasn't until I started buying Unicron Trilogy toys, a few years ago, that I found out how fun and interesting they could be.
