Boys toys category continues to show growth in NERF. And YoKai Watch helped out. No mention of Transformers, which means either shipments were flat or behind last year. In this respect, I'm blaming retailers for not meeting demand and hanging on to their Combiner Wars Skywarps for dear life.

Even I sometimes debate with a friend that we should buy Nerf guns for vacation or something like that. They look awesome :D

ALL THESE REPAINTS ARE KILLING HASBRO or something.

Transformers were listed in the first paragraph.

They also don't mention Star Wars or Marvel so....

    And nope.

Yeah, well, they could've made TEN BILLION if they made what I wanted instead.

Yeah, Hasbro can't get "aggressive" with retailers. The retailers are basically Hasbro's boss. (and shareholders basically own the company) Retailers decide what goes out when and how much of it. Because retailers can theoretically just drop TFs whenever they want because, face facts, unless you're TRU one toyline being absent is not a huge loss when most money is made on anything not toys. Not if it means dealing with a difficult manufacturer. If Hasbro was ever to become more hassle than they're worth, Walmart or whoever could easily pull the plug.

The most Hasbro can do is offer new case assortments, which they do. They can't, and will never be able to, make retailers do anything.

All those cost cuts and crappy hollow figures really paid off for them. This is NOT a good thing, TFs are going to be built like crap from here on out, they have the numbers to prove it pays off.

    Yay.

Ah, but wait. It must have come from a Q&A.

“Powered by our all-screen, year-round storytelling, Transformers had a strong finish to 2016, posting double-digit growth in the second half of the year and is well positioned for the next chapter of the Transformers franchise

Significantly, Hasbro has two major films featuring our brands: Transformers: The Last Knight opening in June and My Little Pony: The Movie comes to theatres in October.

New launches from Backflip Studios, including Transformers: Earth Wars and Dragonvale World, are performing well.”

Strange they left that out of their press release. Makes me think that Transformers didn't contribute to the 3% increase as much as NERF and Monopoly probably did...but didn't want to scare off retailers who might second think supporting the TF5 merchandise.

OH MY GOD THEIR PROFITS ARE UP BUT NOT ENOUGH SO TRANSFORMERS ARE DYING or something.

Right? Hasbro announces losses then clearly Transformers are failing. Hasbro announces increases but clearly Transformers are failing.

    Or else this:
Yeah, I'd rather they don't turn a profit on Transformers.

Because to hell with the other toylines and fandoms that Hasbro makes toys for I want *mine* to operate at a loss because clearly its the most important.

Have to agree with this. I know some hollowness is needed for the transformation, but a lot of new figures have it for no other reason than to cut the production costs. Clearly this is not benefiting buyers, with prices going up (£22 for a deluxe is a joke!) so it can only be that the shareholders are getting better returns. At the rate the prices are increasing in the UK (and I know economic factors are to blame somewhat thanks to this ridiculous Brexit nonsense) I'll be buying fewer Hasbro products and more Takara as I'm getting more for my Pound buying from Japan, even when factoring in the postage cost! Something is seriously wrong with Hasbro's pricing structure when that's the case!

Oh, and that's assuming Hasbro even bother getting product to UK shelves. These days I'm increasingly looking at grey importers to fill holes in my collection because Hasbro hasn't bothered to release entire waves here.

WTF are you on about? They've been turning out crap product lately, but according to you I'm supposed to love it because it's good for other brands?

Big fat WHATEVER, man. I'm a transformers fan, not a Hasbro fan. OF COURSE I want TFs to be made better and not suffer for other lines. You're in the wrong forum I think.

An irrelevant debate since there's no indication of Tranformers' contribution to these numbers.

Actually you can see that Boys was down 3%. All the success came from their Girls lines, up 52%. Also, Franchise Brands only up 2%.

So all of this indicates that at best TF might have been flat (or up a bit if some other franchise boys brand underperformed drastically).

Remember that Hasbro sales aren't necessary a reflection of sales to the end consumer, just to retailers.

Collectors are strong. Believe it. Use your wallet to drive what you want to see.
