Solaris VII: TFW2005's Official Mechwarrior Social Caste

mektek.net has a giant count-down timer on their main page for 2 weeks, for their AT1 project (total remake of MW2, modern graphics off crysis engine) but at the same time, the project lead also said today that the free release of MW4:M could be the same week (10th of Nov).

they're testing the Release Candidate. I expect it to be officially released early next week now.

There is some sad news, though. The Unseens are being taken out for now, possibly back later, but they are playing it safe for now. damnit. No Marauder love for me in the Campaign still!

It seems that all the bugs have been fixed, and that for all intents and purposes the game is ready for release. The hold up is dealing with Lawyers to make sure the the EULA for this free-release is all good to go with not just MekTek, but all the other Battletech IP owners.

The good news here is that while we've been delayed thus far, they're taking this opportunity to go ahead and add in some updates that otherwise would've had to wait for the 4th and final Mekpack (MP4), including updating the Campaign and things!

Anyway, wonderful update today. Practically ready for release. Shooting for next weekend at latest!! Last night the lead posted a "What's left" thread, and listed 6 tech tickets to clear. Today one of their guys posted that he actually cleared 3 of them. What's left? Fixing the games credits to include the MekTek guys seeing as they've added so much content and tweaks and things (I think that's totally fair), adding another name to the memorial list (I think it shows up at the end of the credits? don't remember anymore), and lastly, they've encountered a few stability issues with their auto-updater program (automatically detects, downloads, and installs any new patches to the game, so you don't have to worry about keeping up in order to play online), which is really where most of this week's time will be spent working on.

So, we're nearly there!

The same guys working on the free release and yet another upgrade for Mech 4 Mercs also have a project called AT:1. I THINK that's short for Armored Tech, but I could be mistaken.

Anyway, its basically a game made from scratch, however, what it boils down to is a modern rendition of Mechwarrior 2!! The few screen caps I've seen, the graphics are at least as good as MW4, if not slightly better. They're also going to have more mechs than those in the original game, at least for use in its multiplayer mode. They're also trying to do tweaks so that there's a stark difference between Omni mechs and battle mechs, and other things.

I believe their intentions are to move on to the Ghost Bear's Legacy expansion after the main game is done, and then do the same things for Mechwarrior 2: Mercs.
