Hey everyone. This is a place where I used to call a lot of folks friends. I've met some of you in person over the years. As I'm sure any of you still around that know me have noticed...I don't come around much. Life's been....interesting, and I'm not quite the same person that I was 5 years ago when I frequented this site and was an avid collector.

I was just wondering, how many of you life with these issues, and do you medicate or is there another way?

    Thanks.

    Hello.

I've suffered with depression for the past years, always try my best to stay cheerful, but as of now I'm fighting the urge to commit suicide.

Just getting outside, doing the things you love, and hanging with the people you love really helps.

Believe me, it gets better over time. But if you need any help, or you're struggling, gimme a PM.

    Hi.

I don't medicate. But I do have a very loving, very patient girlfriend who helps me out, so that's good.

Actually, I'll be totally honest and say I don't 100% know if I do. I think I do. Feels like I do. But I hate whining and sounding like I live an extra harder life than others. So...I guess I feel I do.

If I had more money, I'd look up an expert, probably....

Yep. I've had both in fluctuating severity since I was very young.

I'm not sure what I have, one day/night, I'll be ready to dadgum get a knife and just push it through my head, then the next day I'll wonder why the heck I was so upset.

Yes. A lot of my stress has always come from the fact that I'm adopted. I was abandoned by my real parents at birth and they put me up for adoption, but it wasn't until years later my adoptive family brought me into their house where I spent my life as an adopted kid. Being brought up in a foster home is not like being with a real family as you could probably guess.

My adoptive parents are great, but I still would feel like I was a burden to them until my adoptive dad played me this song whenever life got me down and said even though I was adopted, my parents still loved me:

I was pretty depressed when I was unemployed for over a year.

To keep my spirits up back then:

-I talked to my friends about random stuff, especially fun moments from back in the good ol'days
    -I watched TV
-I played video games where I got to blow lots of stuff up
-make plans for when I have a job
-make a conscious effort to sleep in, and remind my self to enjoy it, this downtime was rare.

Anything to make you remember happy times, feel good about yourself, look ahead for when times will be better, and do stuff that when you're busy/life picks up, you wished you had the time to do.

I have in the past. Most of it stemmed from not being in a relationship. Then, when I finally was in one, I was more depressed than I was before. When it ended, I realized that I'm the only one who can make me happy and that being happy in my life was a choice. I've never battled it since. I've currently been single for over 7 years, but I'm happy with who I am and the life I lead.

This too. There's a movie called Tuck Everlasting about a family that's immortal. One of them says "Don't be afraid of death, be afraid of a life not lived."

Having OCD in-tales depression and anxiety, so yes.

Medication eliminates the depression and most any other abnormal behavior, but it doesn't help anxiety. That damn thing keeps me from getting to sleep every night. I'm not sure what to do about anxiety, but for depression, if you don't want to take medicine, putting yourself in more positive environments & talking your heart out to close people helps.

    Hey there,

We've been wondering what happened to you! Yeah life at my end has been "interesting" as well. I won't bore you to tears with it but long story short; finally sold the house, my Mum had a heart attack, diagnosed with renal failure, didn't want to do dialysis and nearly lost her twice in the past 9 months. Been fun.

Don't be afraid to discuss issues with the Doc, if the Doc thinks you need to take a med don't be afraid to have it filled. The shame and stigma associated with anti anxiety/ depression meds needs to end. You can always research it and if you think it's not for you then it's not for you.

    Oh, the book is great.

You know, I always see this, and now I see it here.

The ones who work to make people happy, are the ones who have a hard time being happy themselves.

Family life's getting a little shitty around here and my self-esteem has been at an all-time low, but as far as I know I am not clinically depressed. No cutting, no stress-induced smoking. Just really sad and unmotivated.

I just feel like I and many others here just need a good, long hug.

I suffered from anxiety since middle school and depression since high school. I chalked it up to being a teenager. It continued into adult hood and when I was in the military I started having panic attacks. Military doctors prescribed me with anti depressants and a mood enhancer. It helped. I was also seeing 2 different counselors, one who was a doctor and could prescribe me things and was military. The other was a civilian social worker. Both of them helped, one could help me with basically...the scientific medical side, and the other one could help me with the other aspects.

Eventually I felt with just the social worker I would be able to do okay and not take the medications. Eventually I felt like I did not even need that and I've been okay.

If you need help - get it. You won't regret it. I'm lucky enough I have a very supportive network of friends.

Yes, I have depression and anxiety, as well as several other mental illnesses including schizophrenia. I experience depression every day, as well as several suicidal thoughts every day. I'm on medication for depression and schizo.

I have anxiety, but I've learned how to beat it. Panic attacks are no fun at all.
