It wasn't like OMG this movie is the greatest but it was a smart film about about someone who stood up to the witch hunt of the 50's. I can see why it had 6 Academy awards though. I thought David Strathairn done a excellent job as the sharp newsman Ed Murrow. Georgy Clooney was also very good in this film. Did you know that Mark Cuban( NBA Dallas Mavericks owner) was one of the partners of 2929 Entertainment who helped produce this film? Anybody else like this film? It seems as I get older I am more drawn to films like this, just last night I watched V for Vendetta which is also a film showing the darker sides of government.
Take a shot for every pouch Liefield draws on a character. Great now you have alcohol poisoning.

The b&w cinematography is gorgeous, and the performaces, esp by Straithairn, are very solid. I'm sure like all things Hollywood some of the history has been juiced up and streamlined for effect, but its well played.
Perhaps the only thing I don't care for is the way GC preens about how brave he was to make the movie. I'd say Munich took some balls. War Within, Paradise Now probably too. Battlestar Galactica runs the risk of pissing everyone off just about every week. But McCarthy? C'mon. They've been doing McCarthy movies for decades, and the Hollywood community (for obvious reasons) have long supported them. This is not to say its not a worthy subject. I'm just saying he should try so hard to pat himself on the back. (To be fair - I said the same about Schindler's List 12 years ago, not that I have any documents to back me up).
While on the topic of movies, may I recommend A History of Violence? |

Well casted, and a story that hasn't been endlessly told before. I would have preferred it tp have had a longer run at the theatre, but at least we gave it a chance.

Instead, I got "A History of Violence" because it was five bucks cheaper. I've heard good things about both, no doubt I'll pick up "Good Night, and Good Luck" soon. www.seatstaysup.com |
