A mundane topic, I know - but it beats yet another WTF-inducing news story, doesn't it?

For those of you that do, what do you use? Anyone collect razors or bits and bobs?

For a long time I'd quit shaving proper, thinking it a tedium and just using an electric trimmer on my beard. I got back on the kick three-four years ago after a thread on the Brass Goggles steampunk board led me to articles on Art of Manliness and the Badger & Blade forum - I decided I wanted to take up again and go a little bit oldschool.

Ditched the canned foam and haven't looked back - nothing fancy, just VanderHagen cake soap and a boar-bristle brush; plus the old Gilette Sensor cartridge razor I've had since forever. Never been big on aftershave, but I did find Aqua Velva Ice and Pinaud Clubman to my liking. I'd like to try some of the fancier stuff eventually, but it's hard to find things in brick and mortar these days, even just a double-edge safety razor.

As for what all this keeps in check, I kinda cycle through the year; variously through the Commander Riker mustache and beard, the mustache-and-goatee gig, 'stache-and-muttonchops in the fall, and occasionally the full-on handlebar.

I can grow a beard very well, I'm a big hairy bastard, but after about day 4, the itching gets to me and I have to break down and shave. Wife hates facial hair, too.

I have a thick beard and I can grow one in two weeks. I don't use electric razors, my beard is too thick for that and it dulls razors in no time. That is why I shave about every three to four days.

My brother-in-law is lucky, he only has to shave around the side of the ears and chin. A guy I work with only has to shave under his face and chin. He can't grow a mustache and goatee.

Lastweek I read online where they did a poll about facial hair and according to the poll, majority of women likes men with facial hair.

Me, I hate shaving but I do have a goatee but other then that I hate shaving the rest of my face as it hurts. I have tryed everything except those electric and they are expensive so thats out of the question. I just shave and get it over with as quick as possible at least for me.

I look okay w/ facial hair, but every woman i've been with likes me clean shaven so clean it is. What kills me is that if i don't shave after 3 days my skin gets really sensitive.

I wish there was no need for shaving. I have a Gilette Fusion for my face and a Gilette Venus Divine for the rest of the body. I prefer shaving gel over foam and I need one for sensitive skin, otherwise everything is red all the time. At first I had Wilkinson, because the blades are not so expensive. But Gilette is really much better, so it's worth paying more. Once I had a goatee for halloween and the girls said it looked good, so it stayed a few days, but I hated the feeling of it. Always reminded me of pubic hair and that was disgusting, so I shaved it after a few days.

I can't wait for the hipster beard trend to be over and girls realize these guys just look like homeless people.

I use Gillette Fusion Proglide Power with Gillette Sensitive Skin shave gel. I was using the Mach 3 for over a decade and finally decided to upgrade.

Beards are just too itchy. I shave oldschool with a double edged safety razor. Been considering getting a boar brush to make my own lather too. I save a ton of money and don't get razor burn anymore. I'm not sure exactly how the expensive cartridge razors ever caught on.

I haven't shaved my beard/mustache in about 6 years, because my my genes I can't grow all that great of one, plus it curls up something fierce. Any how, I usually use an electric shaver with the flip out attachment so I can use it as a hair clipper. I haven't shaved with an actual razor for more than a decade. Every once in awhile I'll be forced into clip he mustache a little bit because it'll get caught in my month when I eat, and It makes me bit my lip.

I shave my face and head every 3 - 4 days. My skin is too sensitive to shave much more frequently but, if I leave it any longer, it gets itchy and feels weird. I've been shaving my head for at least 6 years now and don't think I'd ever want to try growing it out again.

I use a Schick Hydro 5 razor on my both my face and head and some sort of cheap canned foam, the brand of which I don't remember. I've tried more expensive shave creams/foams, but none worked any better than the cheap stuff. I don't bother with aftershave. To prolong the life of my razor cartridges after shaving, I rinse them off, dry them, dip the cartidge in 95% ethanol, shake it off and let the remaining ethanol evaporate. I've managed to get a single cartridge to last ~6 months cleaning them this way.

I keep a goatee because I like to keep some facial hair, but my wife hates mustaches and beards are too itchy for me. I use a Mach3 Turbo with standard Mach3 blades for my face and head, Barbasol with aloe and a Wahl cordless trimmer to keep it neat.
