I've been trying to get healthy lately. I've already lost 10lbs in one month! All I do is run at least everyday and eat healthy when I can What are your secret's to weight loss? How much weight have you loss? What are you doing to keep the weight off? What are some of your favorite healthy foods?
I go to a gym usually five days a week. I lift weights and run/walk on the tread mill. I also take Speed and Agility sessions at another place. Yesterday i ran 5.40 miles in 45 minutes on the treadmill then did 8 sets of bicep curls and 2 sets of abs crunches.
I run at least 3 days a week, lift and sit-ups sporadically. Currently on a low carb diet since September 2012. I started getting into shape around September of 2011. I was out growing my size 40 jeans and was not going to start getting 42's, that was my breaking point. As it turns out I was at 305lb. I spent the next year on a low fat diet (always hungry and cheating) walking and doing 10min trainer. Switched to low carb and running and lifting. I am currently at 162lb and comfortably wear size 36 jeans. Low carb may not be for everyone but I personally lost as much weight in the last 6 months as I did the entire previous year on low fat. And I feel great and am never hungry. Take that for what you will.
That's impressive! First off, congratulations. You don't here very often of people who are able to realize that the path there health is taking is a bad one. Thanks for the tips, I'll have to try the low carb diet!
it took me a year to lose 52 lbs. i just walk a mile a day, use a stationary bike for ten minutes, 3 times a day and stretches every morning. but i did cut back on the junk fast food. i only ate them on sunday. im still fat but not as dangerous as i was. 94 pound to go until i drop to 200. just two more years and ill reach my ideal weight. or maybe this holiday season if im lucky.
I need to workout. I may be skinny as hell but I eat the most unhealthy things. I think playing hockey every weekend and jogging or rollerblading whenever I get the chance helps me stay kinda fit but I still need to change my eating habits
That's reall good! I hope all goes well! Make sure you comment if you reach another weight milestone! I have very bad seasonal allergies so I haven't able to run quite as often in the last two weeks. But I guess because I used to eat so unhealthy, I still lost weight because I've really improved my diet.
In about a week I am going to start exercising at a new gym near my home. I am also going to get a personal trainer for the first time for about 3 months. I have a lot of goals I want to accomplish this year, one of which is running in a 3K and 5K race and have a slimmer, more athletic body. Hopefully I can quit drinking sugary drinks and eating those fatty fried food cuz fast food's always been one of my main weaknesses.
I started trying to lose weight back in July 2012 - so around 8 months ago. I started at around 230lbs. I'm now 167lbs, only 2lbs off my target of 165. I did it really simply: 1) Exercise more 2) Eat less Sounds simple, right? It's not too hard to be honest. I go to the gym 3 times a week now and work out for 45 minutes - about 50/50 cardio work (running, exercise bike, elliptical trainer, whatever) and weight training (a mixture of free weights and machines). Sometimes I just decide I want to do a full session of cardio, and that's cool, sometimes a full session of weights, that's cool too. Mix it up, keep it interesting. If you get into a rhythm your body will get used to it (and thus it becomes less effective), and you'll get bored - and that's when the problems start! In terms of food, we've not given up anything at all - we always ate relatively healthily. It's a case of portion size control more than anything - if you're gonna call out for pizza, have half of one rather than a whole one. Make your own burgers instead of buying them from the store. The more home cooking you do though the better, because then you can really control what goes in your food. I found a great app called My Fitness Pal (it's on smartphones and also on the net, Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com) which lets you count calories, and I found it totally invaluable. When you start it's terrifying to see how much you're consuming but once you get into a routine of using it, it's superb. For me it was never a case of personal trainers or whatever, though whatever works for other people is great. Just eat sensibly and exercise
I think another good question to ask is how do you find the motivation to keep at it? I am really out of shape, currently at 210. I know that's not that bad, but my goal is 180 w/ a low body fat margin. I am now back in college, and whenever i have class, i just can't find the drive to hit the gym. A day of work, i have no problem hitting the gym, but when i go to class, all i want to do is go home after. lol
I find it much easier to do my workouts first thing in the morning. When I would wait till after work something would always creep up and derail me. It also helps that I purchased an inexpensive weight bench for the apartment. Commercials? Do some lifts. Bored? Do some lifts etc. Its easier to work in some lifting if the weights are just a few feet away rather than having to set aside a block of time to go to the gym. Not to mention a bit cheaper. Though you don't get the social interaction and feedback like in a gym.
Started in january this year. No meat, chicken or seafood. Work out 3 times a week, run 3 to 4 times a weeks. built up to 10kms minimum with one longer run a week, did 14 kms today on the track. Building to do a half marathon in may. No pop, no caffeine, portion control, and worst of all no booze. I've lost 18lbs since the beginning of the year but I know I've gained muscle in Myles and some other places.
Things that motivate me: 1 Want to stay healthy and enjoy my life. 2 Gives me something productive to do after wasting so much time in school blowing my brains out. 3 Girls, Lets face it i am a comic book geek but i can become a jacked comic book geek to even things out :roll eyes: 4 There are a lot of asses out there that give me crap so i figure if I get strong they will back off and i can stand up for myself. 5 When it come to muscular strength i just think of Arnold Schwarzenegger or Lou Ferrigno and figure if they can do it i should at least try my best. 6 There are people out there who can run 26 freaking miles that what motivates me for cardio. 7 I actually have fun when i am at the gym it gives me reason to get up in the morning. Days i don't go i am a depressed little bastard 8 When i see an out of shape person either fat or skinny i think not to be mean but i don't want to be like that. I want to be healthy and all of that so i can still do things while i am older. I mean my current science teacher is 48 but i could mistake him for 60. 9 Although in some what strange thing to say some fictional characters help motivate to become stronger. Such as Batman or course here is a guy that is at the top level of physical and mental health. Then there is Naruto i've been a fan of the series since it first started airing in 2005 when i was eight year old. I find the character relatable (Besides the dead parents, fox demon, and being a ninja at 12 years old of course) But what i mean is he wants to prove himself and show he more then some goofy idiot, which i can relate to because with my friends i am the goofy idiot who always does something clumsy but in the end Naruto tires to prove he is more which i can then relate to and gives me some motivation. Also of course there the good old kid appeal Transformer characters that such as Cheetor, Hot Rod, and Hotshot who are the unlikely heroes in their series
Best way to exercise is to find things you like. I HATE running, so any attempt by me to stay fit that way has always failed horribly. So I mountain bike and swim my way to fitness. Upgraded my MTB end of last year to an all-mountain so I can ride up the mountain behind my house, then hit up the downhill track on the way down. That's kinda the reward for the hard ride up. Other days I head down the beach and swim around the rock pool. Not always laps, sometimes I just float and watch the sunset, but it works for me and I'm not in front of the playstation. As far as eating goes, at the start of the year we limited ourselves to 2 dessert/junk food items each on the weekend (one Saturday, one Sunday) and while that took a bit of will power, it worked and now we hardly ever eat unhealthy stuff. We feel MUCH better for it aswell.
Do any of you even lift? Sorry, had to be said. At the beginning of the school year, I resolved to regularly go to the gym in hopes of building up some muscle, or at least getting fit enough to be able to walk around campus without getting winded. This term I've finally started going, with a few friends. We generally do cardio for about 30 minutes and then weights and stuff for 30-45 minutes.
Fitness isn't all about getting jacked. My plan is to burn off the fat and lose weight. Once I reach my goal weight then I'll build myself up in muscle.
I lift generally every other day now, but I was lifting every day on active duty. It's more in what you eat than anything else. This system worked for me, and it's been great. I lost about 45 pounds to get to about 185. I cut out all of these foods: -Chips -Candy -Beer -Bread -Milk -Soda -Cream/sugar in coffee Remove those foods and you'll easily lose 10-20 pounds in a couple months with little to no exercising. Diet is a huge part of how our bodies gain or lose weight. I don't lift too heavy, but 185-215 is about how I bench and curl 40-45. Run 2-3 miles a day, and sometimes 5-10 once a week or twice a month. It helps having been in the service, because you understand what it takes to get into the kind of shape you want to be in. So you always kind of now how to get back to where you want to be.
i try to do at least 30 minutes of work-out a week. weather providing i run two miles every other day, and in the gaps do abdominal workouts. it's been too cold lately so i've just stuck to pushups, burpees, curls, planking, squats, scissor kicks, crunches, mountain climbers and flutter kicks every day. i really need to build some muscle which is working but my body's being weird and it's got that V-cut above my stomach but only two abs... i eat really bad food, yeah, but i balance it with the good and work off the bad too. i love planking haha, i know it's not much of a physical exercise, it's more mental. how long can you take that pain... it's so much fun.
