Student forgotten in cell by DEA glad to be alive, lawyer says - latimes.com

Hopefully this thread doesn't become political...

EDIT: There's a typo in the title, it's supposed to be "UCSD Student".

    Agreed.

If you can't drink the time, don't do the crime.

No, you don't feel sorry for him, but in the same time him being left in the cell shouldn't had happen either. Doesn't matter what you think of him, he is still an human being..

Do it. We at TFW Latenight have no shame, especially when it comes at the expense of people who commit crimes or drink their own urine.

It's never smart to mistreat your prisoners; it just gets emotive laywers up and all sorts of other headaches the DEA probably doesn't need.

Also, it says he hasn't been charged. Did he honestly just show up to have a few choofs and suddenly find himself on an episode of Breaking Bad or what?

    Hhaahah.

I bet he's like the Jesse of his operation to, and the DEA'll never know.

My first thought reading this was "I am shocked and amazed that a guy named Chong would be busted by the DEA for ecstacy, not weed." and then it turned out he went to smoke some weed and order was restored to the universe.

Ironically, I'm pretty sure he would have been in better shape had he refrained from drinking his own urine, since that stuff is chock-full of waste your body is trying to eliminate in the first place, so that might have made his dehydration worse. Of course, if he were using ecstacy, he could have already been dangerously dehydrated before he was thrown in that cell.

Aside from that, I'm pretty much mindboggled by how much of a clusterfuck this thing seems to be. How do you forget someone is in a cell for days? Doesn't that kind of go against the idea of incarcerating someone (to say nothing of statutes on prisoner care and rights, etc.)? I'm also kind of surprised that there are people in this thread who seem to think that being caught in possession of an undisclosed amount of drugs is sufficient cause to be starved and dehydrated to the point of hallucinations and hospitalizations without due process.

I saw this story in the news. There was nothing about XTC. He said he was arrested on 4/20 when he went to a guys house to buy some weed and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The above article seems a little more embellished. I find the guys story alot more believeable given this guys appearance and the fact that it was 4/20....

I would sue the shit out of the DEA. Fucking gov't incompetence at it's finest. We expect the DEA to protect us, but they cannot even remember when someone is left in a cell for 5 days. What kind of morons are they?

I am not saying to feel sorry for this guy, but I was in college and hung out with the wrong crowd. If I went somewhere to get high on pot and ended up having to drink my own urine to survive, I would sue too.

In this case the crime did not fit the punishment.

Oh, yeah, almost dying from dehydration and attempted suicide because you've been stuck somewhere for 5 days without any human contact or food or water is totally a justifiable punishment for doing drugs in a private place.

I swear, this mindset about drugs and the vilification of drug users are completely fuckin' out of hand.

What ever also happen to innocent before proven guilty?

So to you guys, I could say, in your house we found that you downloaded illegal music off the internet. Then I could take you to jail and throw you into a cell. Release your folks and forget about you for 5 days.

According to you guys, well, if you cannot do the time don't do the crime. Guess what, you haven't been found guilty of any crime yet. So there is no time to do.

The DEA agents can actually be fined, and fired and should be. Not to mention, their actions were also criminal.

Not that you should feel either way, but your sentiment compels me to mention that he hasn't been convicted or even charged with a crime. No one should have to endure what he did, and I hope you realize there's a difference between punishment and torture.

I wonder if he will do drugs again?

I see the new advertisements now:
"The new DEA, we lock your ass up for 5 days with no food or water just for suspecting you. So kids, don't do drugs.

    Live above the influence."
