    120 Kmart, Sears stores closing

Sears Holdings Corp has announced they are closing between 100-120 Sears and Kmart stores in 2012. Specific locations will be listed on SearsMedia.com as soon as they have completed their final list of store closings.

Ah well - I rarely shop there anyway. I've only been to a Kmart twice in the last 2 years, and that was for some KO TFs they had in Easter basket gift sets. I stopped shopping at Kmart because of their long history of poor customer service, lousy restocking and crappy selection. And they are the slowest big box store to do their periodic dept. and seasonal markdowns. I found a TF Christmas ornament set there last year that was like three years old already, and some 6 months after Christmas they still wouldn't give me a discount on it.

It's no wonder they continue to fail in the market.

I'm surprised that this hasn't happened earlier! Every once in awhile one of my two Kmart stores strike gold...and then nothing else. They were one of the first stores in the area to carry the first RTS wave, and also the first wave of GI Joe 30th Anniversary. When all other stores had sold out of PoC Alley Vipers, this was the first store to get some more in.

Lately however Kmart has sucked beyond belief. I don't even bother going into them anymore even if they're on the way to my primary destination.

This is annoying just because K-Mart is one of the few Big Box Stores with several locations in New York City. We have no Wal-Mart at all in the five boroughs and only one Target that I know of.

Then again, those locations do pretty well with no real competition so perhaps those aren't on the list of forthcoming closures.

It's not surprising. In every K-Mart I've been to in any city other than NYC they're ghost towns. And rightly so... K-Mart is garbage.

I haven't been to a sears in like a decade.

They already went bankrupt years ago. I have no idea how they're still around after that.

We'll see if reality really catches up this time or not.

Considering the lack of space for big box stores, if one of your Kmarts did get closed, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the competing big box stores that can't get space immediately swooped and and grabbed the space. You know they want in.

Might be bad news for me. The one I go to puts out at a decent rate. I've gotten quite a few new or hard to find things there. It would be a bummer if it's closed in the next few years.

K-mart in my area has always been pretty lousy. The few times I've been in there, I couldn't get out fast enough. It's usually dirty and...ignored, even by the employees.

And Sears... I can remember as a kid getting the Sears holiday catalog was a big thing, pages and pages of toys to stare at and drool over. But now, I don't even set foot in department stores unless they're the only way to reach a mall.

The only things surprising about this are: That they aren't closing more K-Mart stores; and that they waited until now to do it. I've always hated K-Mart. They always have outdated stock, very dirty and poorly lit stores, more (literal) garbage than product on the shelves, and hardly any customers when I've gone to them. The stores are just always so creepy.

I only have one Kmart store within 50 miles of me,so hopefully that's not one of the stores that gets shut down.Even though it is a kind of a dumpy store,I always have some pretty good luck there, especially when it comes to clearance stuff.

I do hope one of the two K-Marts near me stays open, since they're the only retailer that stocks the flavor of potato chips I like. However, the K-Mart nearest to me is completely useless for TFs, since they only seem to actually restock the Transformers about twice a year - one massive restock in the summer that sits on the shelves for months, the toys slowly declining in stock until the massive restock in the winter. The store, and the chain in general, is completely useless for anything else and the stores are run-down dumps. I have a feeling this is going to end up like the situations with Borders, where they'll start by closing a bunch of stores and then struggle along for a few more months before the inevitable bankruptcy by the end of 2012.

I haven't so much as walked through a Sears store in probably a decade, so can't comment on that chain, but I definitely won't miss them.

I can't say this'll affect me since there hasn't been a K-Mart where I live for the past 9 years, but it makes me a little sad since I'd hoped they'd get their act together and come back. For nostalgia's sake.

Its not surprising @ all....the stores look like they havent been updated in years, their prices aree too high...they stay on the same wave for an entire year....

Kmart, should have been able to bounce back....they sell everthing, bowling balls?....
