    Yes, because a public display which may bring in tourism, create jobs for its constructions, and that is funded (so far) by completely private funds could have no positive impact on Detroit.

    I guess the people of Detroit want something akin to Philadelphia's Rocky statue. Of course, Robocop as a movie doesn't stack up too well against Rocky, but I can understand the impulse. They want to pay some sort of homage to their city's representation in movies. Hmm. Maybe this isn't such a good idea after all.

    As long as the money doesn't come from the city, what's the big deal? It's no different than the huge statue of the Enterprise-A in the town of Vulcan, Canada.
