On a 3 yr lease your hybrid and bullshit electric is great, its always under warranty and you don't have to deal with it.

Your buying to keep as long as its functional, so stay away from the above.

Take someone with you is an asshole who knows how to buy cars. I've done this for several friends and I tend to be really honest  Or really an asshole... Don't be afraid to stand up and walk out. Your letting them tell you what you want, that's a bad sign already.

You want reliable in a car from what it sounds, so leave all the stupid bullshit like bluetooth/interface for the birds. If you have a cell phone you don't need it.

I hate power everything, computer everything, consoles a foot wide in the front and anything involving all the technology bullshit they keep shoving into cars. All it does it make it cost more, weigh more and a hell of a lot less reliable.

No still looking several places. It is just that many cars i look at are close to the same price ($2-3000 difference) yet have three to four times as many miles. The low milage is a strong consideration. I've been looking at the inventories online of several places. The dealership i got my scion at (where it is currently) has a 2013 Focus for about $12,000 with 32k miles. That is a strong possibility. Just did an online finance estimate and it would be less than $190 a month for 4 years. That is doable.

My scion only had about 75-80k miles. I don't want to buy something with more miles than i had.

As for the previously mentioned stuff with the radio, all i do is listen to my ipod in the car. As long as i can play it through the speakers i am good. Wireless or aux cable is fine.

 

Okay, maybe this whole eating one bowl of rice a day actually did trigger a depressive episode.

Had to skip class yesterday, and honestly, it feels like I might do it tomorrow as well.

 

Sorry to hear about the setback... hopefully with treatment she'll recover soon... and you're a good brother! Might even get a little 'squeeeee' from her when she sees her B&tB!!!  

 

The appointments department at my hospital has really jerked me around the past few days. So I was supposed to have an appointment with my consultant next Tuesday, presumably to discuss the current state of my insides and what, if any, course of action they can take what with having exhausted so many treatment options (hooray for having a an incurable disease that in my case is also annoyingly resistant to treatment...). That would've been fine.

I get a call on Monday saying they can actually offer me an appointment for Wednesday (yesterday), so I said go for it. I get a call two hours later telling me actually that's already cancelled because your consultant isn't available that day but they'll contact me with a new appointment. VERY GOOD!
So then I get a call on Tuesday afternoon to tell me they've rebooked it for October 17th, just under a month away. Even better!
It's not like I'm really fucking sick or anything, no, it's fine, I'll just carry on having minimal quality of life for another goddamn month because some dipshit didn't check the doctor's schedule properly before offering me a new appointment.

I really hope someone got in a lot of shit for that, it's fucking ridiculous.

Doesn't surprise me, sadly so typical, people w/o insurance shouldn't be allowed to have/drive cars.... it's the law in many places, however, just like driving drunk, people will break the law, hoping they won't get caught. Sorry MR.

 

If it's getting that bad, see if there's a campus food bank you can use.

 

Unfortunately, this school is for-profit and kind of vicious to its students. I sent an email asking for an exception to allow me in the cafeteria (which you can't enter without an active bar code) for a couple of days until I get some money, but knowing other people's experience with their lack of empathy... yeah. My guess is they will tell me to ask my father for money, which he also has zilch.

 

Many campus food banks are operated independently of the administration (sometimes through the student union), or are off-but-close-to campus and organized by unrelated charitable organizations. If you're starving to the point where it's affecting your ability to properly take advantage of the education you've paid for, I strongly recommend looking into what charitable options there are in your area for food-insecure individuals.

You could also talk to your local grocers about discounts on imperfect food (dented boxes, produce with bumps, food close to it's sell-by date), there's an app called FlashFoodthat aims to help with this, but I don't think it's launched yet.

Well decided on new car. Black Ford Focus SE with 34k miles. $12000 price tag but $2500 scrap trade in. Handles nice.

Now to name it. It is an Autobot this time.  

 

Wow awesome deal with my car. Talking finance and i owed about $500 still on my engine from the old car. Guy said what he would do is add that to the finance and cut me a check for the $500 that way i can deposit that and pay it off right away. That cuts all the stress of two bills down to a little more than what i was paying on the engine. I can afford it easily now.

Edit: also getting 4 year warranty and payments less than $200/mo. Right now i am paying more than that with my engine payment and ipod (6 month no interest). With paying those off i am sitting fine where i am. That is a load of stress off. I feel so much better.

 

They gave me a meal card for 20 meals. About 10 days if I eat only twice a day.

Gotta take as much as I can from the buffet and put it in the freezer.

Now, all I gotta figure out is what to do with the laundry. I only have the Tide bag thingies that may or may not be toxic to wash by hand...

 

At the next opportunity, get yourself a multivitamin. You're likely quite deficient by now, plus if you have to go on rice again it will be nutritional support for your body.
