did my time in the Army (Reserves) as a Admin Specialist though i did more Printing (forgot what that MOS was) than admin...got deployed to Iraq for OIF 3.5 as a admin specialist/intel analyst. Ended my career as a SGT after my 8 year contract was over.

Got a bro in the Marines (Reserves - no longer in), a cousin in the Army (National Guard - current), another cousin in the Army (Active - current), a relative (cousin i think) in the Navy (Active - current), and another relative (cousin's cousin or something) in the Air Force (Active - current). Might have more but those are the only ones i remember

I keep debating with myself if I want to join the Air Force or not. I'd like to sign up with them because I like planes, they're awsome. I would really like to be a fighter pilot but no luck in that field, I don't have 20/20 eye vision. So my issue is that if I can't be that, then I dunno what else is there that I'll get out of it.

I'm still attending school and going for my Digital Media degree, I wonder how that might be useful in the Air Force. My plan right now is to just finish school.

Oh please. I scored so high on the ASVAB that the Navy offered me a nuclear tech job on a sub. Some of the smartest dudes I ever met were grunts. A lot of them had bachelor's degrees and made great NCOs. They just didn't feel like going through the motions of finding a career, and wanted to blow shit up until they figured out what they wanted to do in life.

So to translate:

C'mon guys, this isn't the "pound my chest, I'm better than you because of my job" military thread. We all have jobs and we all play our part. There is no one job that's better than another, it all needs to be done for the military to operate successfully.

The way I see it, if you feel the need to defend your job over others it usually (not always, mind you) means you're unsatisfied or unhappy with what you do so you play it up like it's great. If that's the case then you should reclass to something you'd be more happy in. This is why so many people say they are getting out. They say it's because of their operational tempo or their Chain of Command, etc., which may be the case. However, in my 17 years I've talked to a lot of Soldiers and I find it's more often because they hate their job. I've helped 12 Soldiers reclass to a different job and they all re-enlisted at least once.

I know all of this because it's what happenned to me. I started in a Forward Support Batallion at Ft. Campbell, KY and hated what I was doing (mechanic). I kept fucking up and made a lot of mistakes (I can't say they weren't all on purpose). Eventually they found out I could type and they put me behind a desk. I've been there ever since and it's something I enjoy doing. Next thing I know I've signed more contracts and am almost to retirement. And, no, it wasn't because of bonus money - I've never had a bonus.

Death Metal - making moms ask "WTF does that say?" since 1983.

One of the proudest traditions of being a serviceman is the competitive but friendly nature between branches, and even jobs within branches. Don't take it personally man.

I was thinking about taking a trip around the holidays since it's summer there then. I found out my extension got denied so I'll probably be PCS'ing in Jul. I told myself that I'd go this time..only have less than a year to go...

Zoinks!
I do have to admit I have seen a couple of smart guys in the infantry. They usally gather around the lower enlisted and read to them out of the common tasks manual until they fall asleep for nap time.
Thanks for putting a smile on my face.

And as someone said, the rivalry chest thumping is half the fun of being in the military. If you can't take the heat go fill out DA Form IMT WF1.
