I'm no expert, but these two links may detail some of the hoops you'd be jumping through to do just that:
importing a motor vehicle - Importing a Motor Vehicle.
Bringing Your Car to Australia - Australian Automobile Association - Registering to drive left hand drive vehicles
Now, money is the big thing so I cheated a bit and used the ZIP code for Wall Street in New York to build a Camaro that I would like to drive, basically I went to the top end SS
Net in US Dollars: $36,365
Now converted to Australian Dollars: 45,160.40
The duty payable is 10%xCost so 45,160.40x0.10 = 4516.04
Transport and Insurance, say, $4,500
Now is where it gets really fun
Current cost it: 54,176.44 for a Camaro
Tax = 54,176.44x0.10 = 5417.65
Sub total = $59,595.10AUS
LCT: 59,595.10 - 57,180 = 2415.10
LCT Payable: 2415.10x(11x0.33) = 8766.81
So in total, I'd be looking at 45,160.40 for the car, trimmed how I want it and then I add Duty (4516.04), Transport cost (4,500 as a ballpark figure) Goods and Services Tax (5417.65) and LCT (8766.81)
So for a car that costs in the USA approximately $32,000 I would pay: $68,361.91
