Stupid race on FoxSports1 again. I only saw bits and pieces of it. I'll be happy when NBC takes over.
I only saw parts of it and I get FoxSports 1. I've gotten to the point that I tune in for the first twenty laps to see who is going to make their way up through the field, but if you watch the first 100 miles and come back in an hour and a half, it's usually the same running order. Not every race needs to be 500 miles and four hours.
Yeah, I don't get it. Coming off the great season he had last year I expected more of the same this year. Plenty of time to turn it around.
I'm reminded of Mark Martin. He had a successful time and then enter a slump time. Then had one more great year (2009) and back into the slump.
I wonder what Mark Martin is up to these days. After he finally retired he just dropped off the radar. Usually when these guys retire you still see them around from time to time.
IIRC he is working with a dirt late model team now. Something about his car dealership sponsoring someone or something like that.
There is absolutely no excuse for making drivers perform at quarter to three in the morning. If there had been a fatality, particularly to a fan in attendance, there would have been hell to pay today. Glad to see Dillon is okay. If that car had flipped with a little less or little more speed, the engine and transmission could have easily been ejected into the grandstands.
Something can happen at any point regardless of when the race is. As for the time, it happens occasionally. The 2005 race was also delayed for hours and started late. People pay to see a race and Nascar did its best to ensure those fans got what they paid for. Had it been say 12 pm today, many wouldn't had been able to be there. Along with putting more pressure on teams in advance of the Wednesday test at Kentucky. Heck, some of the teams went straight to work as soon as they got off the planes.
Nascar was in a tough spot last night on whether to wait and race or delay it. I stayed up until 12:15 watching it but since I had to get up for work at 4:00 I had to DVR the rest of it. I was tempted to stay up because I had a good feeling about JR. winning it, and he didn't disappoint me. That wreck was wicked. It's amazing what those drivers can go through and just walk away.
I understand why they did it (and it has more to do with television than people in the stands). But they took a big risk and had someone been seriously hurt there would have been serious discussion about driver fatigue whether or not it would factored into the accident. (And it could have contributed to some of the dumber crap that happened earlier in the race.)
