So you talk them up. Even if an artist draws terribly at age 10, the parents tell them the drawings were good, so they went out and made something of it since they had that motivation, even if they weren't special or amazingly talented out of the womb. Yeah, the parents lie, but it's the meaning behind it that counts. If you think your kid will be happy as an artist or whatever, you back them up. Now, the awkward thing is, if your feeding these kids self help lies, eventually you have to lie to other people so the kid doesn't find out somehow. So it's a string of lies that most of us know but have to nod and smile anyways. Or to the writer of the article, thanks for pointing out the obvious.
I personally believe that motivation and drive can make up for a lack of advanced intelligence or innate skills. So, when I have kids, I'm gonna keep up the string of lies and hope it works out. |
