I think that would be a good transition for you given your background, as opposed to full fledged MMA where you would have to learn wrestling and BJJ in addition to boxing.

Are there smaller kickboxing venues in your area?
I saw a Boxing commercial and it said "It's a fight to the finish" Thats a good place to end.

I assume the pressure point control is more appropriate when you have a struggling criminal partially restrained by other officers? I have a hard time seeing it really being effective in a one-on-one scenario.

Hmm, did Shotokan Karate for a couple of years, the sensei was 6th or 7th dan? Too high to be ranked up in the UK anyway.

Then I did Wadu Ryu Karate for a few years with the womens UK no. one (former world champion!) as my sensei. Trained with England squad members and everything. They would have kicked my ass though.

Then I did Muay Thai for a few months, dabbled in Goju Ryu and Wing Chun for a bit.

Then in around 2000 I did Shaolin Gong Fu up until quite recently. Super double hard bastard classes. Awesome though. But now I've moved house I need to find something else.

Since the Shotokan I've been using Nunchuku, learning different bits from different teachers, and no books can teach me anyhting new about them, its all practice I guess.

I've been doing martial arts for around 15 years now, and I'm decent, but really I should be fitter than I am. Its more a hobby with me, I have a friend to who Martial Arts are a way of life, and she's nuts.
Time for a change...

Yeah, I'm a lot calmer (and trimmer) if I train regularly. If not? I'm a little rotund ball of anger.

You should do some boxing! If there is a boxing gym in your area it will kick your butt. It should definatley round out your kicking skills.

Not really. Need to start looking around if I really want to start taking my training seriously.

It works very well one-on-one. Its a lot of strike pressure and movement not just standing there and doing the vulcan death grip. When I first started training I didn't think it would work but the first time I made a man piss himself with a well place brachial stun it changed my mind.
