Especially if a transformers exploded, there's bound to be power outages, which can definitely interfere with cell-phone service. Factor in all the calls being made by people with family members who ride trains in New York, it's almost certainly just a connection issue.
I know the waiting has gotta be stressful, but give it a while, and I imagine he'll call. Feedback here! Criminals are HOT.
