I think they want people to say "Mentally Handicapped" or when people ask me what she does I tell them "She teaches special education" so I guess you could get away with calling them "special"? | |

If someone has Down's Syndrome, you say they have Down's. If referring to someone in general, or a group of people, "Mentally Handicapped" or "Challenged" is preferred. If you said "Those retarded kids" to my Wife, you'd likely come to in the back of an ambulance.

But that's ok, there are enough funny terms in that field of work anyway. Like assbergers (sp), and Woodcock Johnson. | |
