Preacher's wife guilty in husband's death

http://www.cnn.com/2007/LAW/04/19/wi...ial/index.html

She can get a max of six years in prison? Does that strike anyone else as somewhat...light?

My cousin got six years for involuntary manslaughter. It's not the same thing as murder. This preacher's wife was retalitating against an abusive husband.

edit: Not a lot of evidence she was abused. Making your broad dress up in bed isn't abuse, it's cheating prevention.

The guilty verdict was for voluntary manslaughter as I understand it. No difference in sentencing?

I'm guessing that the prosecution didn't think they could put up enough of a fight against the abuse history testimony to get first degree murder. I'm surprised the manslaugter charge doesn't carry a longer max sentence, though.

Sentencing guidelines are state-specific, correct? Manslaughter and murder would have different sentences, as murder is the more severe conviction.

Its crap like this that makes a lot of those real abusive cases difficult to call.

She also said he forced her to submit to sex acts that made her uncomfortable.
That’s abuse to get killed over... I may need to re-think my trip to the adult video store.

It does seem light since she shot him in the back while sleeping if I heard the story right. Guess she should've waited until he kicked her in the face again.

Thing that disturbed me the most is when she said he covered the kids mouth and pinched their nose to stop them from crying. Who knows if it's all true though.

Don't look at my stuff!! Which is

I wholeheartedly feel like she got what she deserved. If that behavior was actually going on, she should have called the police or something. That is no excuse to kill someone.

I hear that. How many times do we hear some murderer claim stuff about who they killed? Oh yeah, I'll trust you. Ya know, being a murderer and all.
