Anyone (that includes kids and adults) who feels isolated and alone in this world is at risk for destructive behavior. Whether it's to themselves or others. Alienation has been shown to be behind most substance abuse and suicide. Finding a sense of support, even if it's not all that great, stems the risk. Of course, good support from reliable and consistent parents and friends is the ideal. Whoever this guy was, seems like he was completely alone. Living in his car, probably quite poor, no outlet for any feelings likely. I don't condone his actions, but can see the path to insanity in that. If he was able to at least get to a homeless shelter or find some sense of community (or ideally, a mental hospital), this whole situation would probably not have happened.  |
