So, never actual had a job before, been too busy with school, but this year I've finally made it a priority. Managed to get a call from one place, asking if I was available for a phone interview Monday. Talking on the phone gives me bad anxiety, so I'm going to write down ideas for responses to possible questions. Meany hear work as a cart attendant, know what sort of things might be asked, what important qualities are wanted? Thanks
If it's a shopping cart attendant, I imagine the qualities needed are the ability to show up and push a line of carts. It'll get your foot in the door, and maybe eventually you'll get trained as a cashier, which will give you experience for other jobs.
Be able to give examples of times you worked effectively as part of a team, especially with difficult people. Give examples of previous times you've shown yourself to be responsible, dependable, and good with people. Show up 15 minutes early, be well-groomed, have a copy of your resume and the information you provided on your application (if you have it), and watch your body language.
*pssst* (it's a phone interview). Well, I guess make sure the phone line is free. Try and relax on the phone I guess, if you're nervous on the phone and have identified it as a weakness just bear that in mind. Maybe talk to people on the phone to improve your phone manner?
Tell about the time you Secret Service style dove in front of a cart that was about to hit a customer's car.
I missed that. Some people say you should still dress up for phone interviews to get "into role". If you think that'd help, go for it, OP?
No offense meant, but if you're applying for a job as a shopping cart attendant/wrangler, you won't really need to impress much. Just don't say anything that will allude to a desire to take the shopping carts for a spin Jackass style.
Thank you for all the advice, and hey, if the phone interview goes well, the advice for in-person interviews should come in handy soon. One thing I'm really not sure about, I have asperges, and im not sure if I should day anything about it. I figure if I get asked something along the lines of"What can you offer us that someone else can't?" I can say that aspergers makes it so that rather than getting bored with doing the same basic tasks day after day, I seek that sort of reliable schedule, but other than that, would there be any point in mentioning it? Again, thank you
No point in mentioning your aspergers. Unless they have a positive discrimimation policy for disabled people?
Goddamn it, fucking really? That is YOUR OWN PERSONAL GODDAMNED BUSINESS! You function, you have a life, you post, find yourself another crutch to blame everything on. No one gives a shit. If your going to go that route, might as well tell them your a white/black/christian/muslim/neonazi/identify as a female as well as a lgbt supporter and you have breast cancer just to cover every single base. Make sure to highlight your Facebook page of the selfie of the dump you took before the interview...... You want something supportive? It's a goddamned phone call, if you can't handle a phone call how the hell are you going to handle an interview? Get off your butt, ask a friend or family member to help you. Practice the phone call, do anything other than trying to figure out how to handle a phone interview on a message board. I'm sorry, but this shit pisses me off. The real world blows, so best get prepared now and find a way to deal with it or your going to have a very shitty life in the future.
Damn dude, chill. I did all those things. This was just one more way of asking for a bit more advice. You can never be too prepared. And did you even read what I wrote? No where did I mention bringing up aspergers as a crutch or excuse. Pretty much the opposite, asking if anyone thought it was appropriate to bring it up all. Anyway, the interview went great. Was told it sounded like I fit all the qualities they needed, and I should hopefully get an email or call within the next few days telling me when an in person interview will happen!
Good news! Just got an email asking me to come in tuesday morning for the next interview! Should that go well, there's one last interview which is mainly to finalize the details of the job. Really nervous, but also excited
Meant to say thursay, not tuesday. Feel like the interview went pretty well, like I made a good impression. Hoping to hear back within a few days to learn if I’ve got the job.
So disappointed. Didn't get the job. No idea why, felt like I did fantastic on both interviews, but oh well, it happens.
