I enjoyed the 80's when the heavy metal hair bands were popular.

Pretty much the 80's looking at the family's photo album had a lot of over the top things, like hair, music, and movies and people were not conservative with money as they are now to some extent.

I don't remember the Challenger disaster too much but I do remember great cartoon shows and getting up on Saturday to watch them. You pretty much you were glued to that tv from 8:00 am (or even earlier) to lunch time

I do remember a lot of AIDS and seeing commercials, there was a lot of promotion in that area

Mom said "people didn't really ask for "doggy bags" or take leftovers home from the restaurants back in the 80's"

This was when the "War on Drugs" started. Lots of shows were doing anti-drug episodes. The biggest I saw as a kid growing up was "Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue". I enjoyed that as a kid since it took characters I knew and brought them together, though I haven't seen it since I was a kid. It was also the last decade before technology that we take for granted took off. There were no cell phones, no Internet, and the original NES was the top console.

That said, it was also a time of innocence. People didn't seem as angry or fearful as they are now. Maybe that's childhood innocence talking, maybe that's just because we didn't have the tech to see how bad things have been, but there was a lot of stuff that went down in the 90's.

There was an entire documentary on this.

^ a good small snippet of the mini-series' content here:

I thought it was pretty well done. It covered a lot in the mini-series, everything from political to pop-culture.

Dare I call it the decade that spawned everything we know today. Whereas everything from the end of WW2 through to mid-70s created the big boom that was the 80s. We're living in its ripple effect.

    IMO.

The WW2 era was to the 60s/70s as the 80s (and to a lesser extent the 90s) are to today in a sense.
