Sounds like she is upset because Hasbro used her name without permission.

Isn't that Faulkner one of the anchors on Fox "News"? These people sure love to be victims, don't they?

So? I'm sure there's disparaging products of the US President out there with his name being sold, yet is his team suing people? No. So why does she think she can win?

:/ Just miffed that Hasbro could be spending money on making toys, but instead has to deal with people like this.

She is. Littlest Petshop wanted to attract Generation X parents by naming their toys after celebrity figures they might recognize.

This is a weird story. Since it seems like the line uses "real" names for the pets, are other people with corresponding names going to line up and form a class action suit?

Has it been proven Hasbro intentionally used her name, or just a name that happens to be hers?

Because she's American. Americans can sue anybody over anything and everything and will probably win.

I don't think its a coincidence, that's a pretty unique name. I havn't looked up the toy yet but if it looks like her too, then I can see why she would be upset. Will she win the lawsuit? Highly unlikely.

edit - I don't really see any resemblance, and it's such a small little figurine.

She's confused about her own skin. She's black. Not brown.

    Also that's a dog.

The TM behind the name on the toy is the scary part.

Haha, good ol Harris. She was one of the few black anchors we've had here locally on TV in MN. I knew she'd left but didn't know she hosted a show on Fox News.

    As Morgan Freeman once said.

My dad is always watching Fox, so I often see her while visiting. If you watch her news segments, she often opens her eyes wide as fuck when she's looking directly at the camera. There's probably some designer who thought this would be amusing, as she's one of the few human beings with LPS eyes.

The newscaster will have to come up with a 3rd party style name if she wants to make dolls of herself.

What, preaching brimstone and hellfire on that "news" "network" of yours not getting you enough attention, sweetheart?

In lieu of a snarky retort that'll probably push this topic into political territory (or at least a flamewar on whether or not society's going to shit), here's a link discussing the actual details of the case you were probably thinking of when you made that statement.

That said, yes, Fox Lady is an idiot for suing Hasbro.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, this is Chewbacca...

Chewbacca has many toys made with his name and likeness; and while he's a Wookie who lived a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, he's nevertheless popular. However he does not have the ability to sue the toy company as he's light years away. Why hasn't the toy company stopped? Ladies and gentlemen, this does not. Make. Sense.

In defense of Ms. Faulkner, this kind of thing happens all the time. Companies and big names have to defend their names, even in cases where it seems outright frivolous, because if they fail to, it opens Pandora's box on the name getting taken and used/misused, defamed or diluted later.

An old friend of mine was in a band called Salvation Amy, and you can bet that once the company you probably read that as first heard about it, they sent a C&D letter. After some talking to their lawyers, they got that same explanation that it was more a necessary evil than any kind of willful smackdown or money grab.

With individual names in the media it's more of a gray area than corporate trademarks, but it does happen. In Ms. Faulkner's case she may not be representative of a brand of trademark, but if the name was used without permission (and it is a unique and recognizable name), she does have some legal footing to stand on. This will probably just settle out of court and blow over in a few days.
