Bought by Del-Taco in 1988 and all converted to Del-Taco or closed by 1994 a Super Fan fought Del-Taco over abandoning the name and won and the first Naugles in over 20 years opened today! Naugles blows Del-Taco and Taco Bell out of the water! Long-Dead Mexican Fast Food Franchise Naugles Reopens Today in Fountain Valley - Eater LA
I remember Naugles when I lived in San Diego. I also remembered when it turned to Del Taco. The food went down the gutter then. I hope it will expand rather than one store in Fountain Valley.
They plan on it. That location fell into their lap they said and they are using it as a test kitchen so to speak for future expansion.
Del Taco sucks balls. I remember when one of them opened up here in CO. I went there and the pictures fooled me into thinking they were either the same size as Taco Bell crap, or bigger. When I paid for my food and got it, I literally said "WTF!?" Yeah the employees heard me. The tacos were smaller than that of Taco Bell's crap. The burritos were smaller too and they were all more expensive than Taco Bell's crap. Neither of those two wannabe restaurants are worth it unless you're completely hung over and want a mad fit of diarrhea the next morning.
we actually had a naugles in this year's botcon town of st. charles in illinois up until the late 80's. weird knowing now they were a LA based chain...but they were there. my dad swore by them and would never go to taco bell (which is also sad because the location IS now a taco bell ). also I think they were one of the few fast food places that were open 24 hrs back then and being self employed, he sometimes pulled into the morning shifts to get work done and only naugles would be open sadly I don't remember ever eating there, but I remember him loving it. wonder if they'll ever venture out to the midwest again...
The Bun Taco. It's a Naugles Original actually. You can get it still at Del-Taco on it's "Hidden Menu"
They were overwhelmed by the crowd opening day and had to close early because they ran out of everything. Pretty good sign if you ask me.
Oh man, Senior Naugles! The Del Taco down the street from me used to be a Naugles when I was a kid, I played their 2 arcade machines a lot. That's great someone is using the name, I hope the chow is good, it reminds me more of Tito's Tacos in the photo than how I picture Naugles, but that's probably informed by Del Taco's takeover.
I've never heard of Naugles, but if those pictures are any indication, then I bet the food is the same ol' del taco fare.
Guy is a super fan that fought Del-Taco's squatting of the name trademark and won. Has been running Popup Test Locations to get the recipes just right. Everyone I have talked to that has gone says it's just like the original. Blows Del-Taco and Taco Bell out of the water!
